We live in an era when constituency MPs - of all colours - are advised not to advertise constituency surgeries for security reasons on the grounds two of them have been murdered in recent years.

The Prime Minister is going to get a Police Escort in and out of a football ground. It will be a security decision, not his.

As an aside, I have one of her cook books, treat yourself to her crab meat risotto..it is something else.
What is it? A beef bouringon?
You've rolled it along the goal line. All it needs is one of our less culturally sophisticated posters to poke it in
I didn't want to disappoint you, Wz (unless I missed it among the political points-scoring).

On that note:

Some people: Why can't politicians be more like NORMAL people?

[Politician goes to football match like NORMAL people]

The same people: No, not like THAT! What a berk, down with that sort of thing, etc, etc, etc, etc.

I get the feeling I'm being outvoted on here simply because I pay extra to use a coach. I've worked damn hard all my life and feel it's time to reap the rewards with a small luxury, a door to door service. I used P&R for about 6 years getting drenched waiting for the next bus. The stewards do very well getting the coaches out, generally waiting 15 minutes or so whilst the first group of P&R buses have moved off. They then take us out as a convoy, holding up all other traffic. At this time I may see 1 or 2 busses waiting to leave but never any buses waiting to get into the Amex.
It's nothing to do with getting "outvoted". You using your hard earned money how you wish is entirely your choice (we'll put aside that plenty of people work extremely hard for the money they have and still can't afford the luxury you choose to use). It's more to do with how you think 15 minutes extra of your time on a heated coach leaving an event you personally decided to attend is SO important to you. There have been far bigger delays to both the coaches and the buses due to weather or crashes - what were you hoping to use your lost 15 minutes for ? You go to the football - expect delays for whatever reason (including ensuring the leader of our country is protected as they should be) and I say that as someone who didn't vote for the current government.

EDIT : and in the people that work extremely hard for less money I include your employees that you've opened admitted only get the National Minimum Wage.

I wonder if he stopped off for a Burger King on the a23 or whether the piglets pies filled him up
Something tells me that he probably got a Steven Edwards / Angela Hartnett meal. Would be funny if he got the same as the ref and linos though

I have a similar problem with them holding back the Mill Road P&R buses to allow the coaches full of the self entitled to leave. Difference being I'm often standing in the pissing rain and the cold not on a warm coach.
I'm not sure it happens exactly how you think. I use one of the match day buses put on by Seagull Travel. We park in the section with the coaches. For a 3pm kick off (a rare event, I grant you) ... they don't start clearing the bus/coaches until 5.15pm at the earliest. So before that, cars stream past from one of the car parks and P&R buses start to leave. The first to leave from the coach park is usually a few smaller mini buses - often with disabled people. They then stop the traffic to allow all away coaches to get on there way - which is absolutely fair enough. Once the away coaches have gone, ST buses and coaches start to leave. But they do this gradually using car park staff with stop/go lollipops to allow some cars to go past our exit before allowing some buses and coaches. We'll then get stopped again etc etc ... taking turns until all cleared. In the meantime, the P&R buses will filter in. Our regular bus driver - a STH in the North Stand - almost always allows P&R buses out and also those returning to pick up more passengers. It works pretty well in my opinion ... and we are certainly not 'self entitled' .... that's just ridiculous.

"self entitled" was more a throw away comment to do with the OPs '15 minutes extra to wait' complaint.

BUT - I've seen first hand P&R buses being held to allow the coaches to be cleared. Stood at the top of the steps in the pouring rain and four buses being parked there waiting to be loaded and we're not even allowed to get on them to get warm while they clear the coach park. The stewarding of the P&R, coaches and motor bikes is comical (when it's not raining or cold - then it's just a ball ache ).

Ahh, I see ... and understand (y) We just had a laugh and joke about it on our bus while we waited for Sir Keir to go past. Not an issue for me (y)

And as I said in my original post - it might be the away coaches you see heading out while everyone else is stopped. We don't start to leave until 30 minutes after final whistle (excluding added time) at the earliest. And we do filter with other traffic - we don't ALL leave once we've started.

Slightly sad state of affairs that coaches have become a luxury form of travel but I digress.

Probably but he is very busy being the PM
“I love football – if invited I would love to come and see them play.”

On the other hand, with Barco now on loan to FC Clacton, Farage might be seen in his own Constituency on a Saturday instead of living it up in Trump Tower or Mar-a-Lago

Not sure FAB could carry me any distance, but if he could, not sure I would consider it luxury 😀

Just far enough away from LDC
And tax payers money is paying for the limo and police escort to take starmer to a football match he could have watched on the tv , waste of resources and a VERY expensive game - totally self serving .
Do they charge by journey? Or is it likely to be a flat fee irrespective of where he goes? I suspect we wouod be paying for the car and security irrespective of where he was on Saturday

I don't like two tier Keir and I don't agree with the majority of his policies. But from a club perspective having him at the game is no bad thing. Have no doubt Paul Barber will have viewed this as very useful given the debate over the regulation of football. I can just picture him shuffling up alongside him as they both took a half time wee break. "Can I have a word Prime minister..."

I do wonder how the poor bloke fits this all in though. The job of a Prime Minister is basically 24/7 and the chances to spend time with your family must be incredibly limited. I can't imagine the conversation to spend what little time he has for his family went well when he said he was off to the football. It's hard enough for those of us with a 9-5, Mon-Fri job. Maybe Mrs Starmer and the kids got sick of him over Christmas and encouraged him to go? They were probably allowed to stick the heating on for the evening maybe?

As you say in your first paragraph from a club point of view having him at the game is no bad thing …and indeed Starmer is a football‘supporter’ (poor choice of club) so gd on him for attending a game ….but feel sorry for him nah ..he had a holiday away with his kids last week … got preferential treatment …plenty of perks with the job …so I’ll pass on that bit of sympathy

The Police would be paid anyway and the vehicle - no idea if it was a limo - would be a car used by the PM, hence not an additional cost though.

Please crack on though.
