I was saying he had a touch of Messi about him last season, so clearly I am not alone

No you are not alone. Tevez, his manager at Rosario made the initial comparison to Messi in 2021 and his being compared to Messi was widely discussed on this thread in 2022 - I made a few comparisons too tbh several seasons ago on this thread. There are aspects to his game that are similar but that’s where the comparison should end IMO. Facu is his own man and will develop his own unique signature style.

However, every time a young attacking MF/no10 player shines above the crowded field of new talent, he gets compared to Messi. Fati was supposed to be the new Messi at Barca.

Eden Hazard and Mbappe were both repeatedly compared to Messi too.
Atone Bonmati who has just won the Ballon d’Or 2024 has also been hailed as a new Messi.

I don’t think it’s very helpful for a young player to carry that reputation on his or her shoulders… most young players that grew up idolising Messi would anyway probably regard it disrespectful to whom many regard as the GOAT.

It can set impossibly high targets and diminishes a player’s own individual and unique style and talent.

Ballon d'Or 2024: Aitana Bonmati wants Lionel Messi comparisons to end after Barcelona hero wins back-to-back awarded

"Tottenham are keen on a move for Argentine midfielder Facundo Buonanotte, 19, but will have to compete with Leicester, where he is currently on loan from Brighton"

From the BBC Gossip column. Not sure Spurs or Leicester can afford him

When quoting the BBC gossip column, it would be helpful to also identify the source the BBC is referring to.

A quick squizz at some of the sources of today's gossip on the BBC website hardly screams Pulitzer prize winning journalism.

Today's leading gem of gossip is a story from the Mirror which on closer inspection is a very weak piece with no quotes that uses a story from the Sun to somehow give it validation.

Why? It's a gossip column. 90% of it is nonsense, I just thought it was relevant nonsense

I actually don’t think the BBC should post transfer rumours. The reason is loads of people don’t actually realise they just repost other sources (some good, some shit). I’ve seen people saying on here and other forums “BBC are reporting that X player is going to Y club”, when really they’re just reposting Johnny Neckbeard’s Twitter page. Seems a bit beneath the BBC really
