If you are saying that were Fergy infected with EVB (which causes mono, aka glandular fever) this would have been identified by the club doctor,
and this would have been factored into his rehabilitation.
And there is every chance this would have become public knowledge,
becuse there is no value in the club hiding an illness such as this and allowing everyone to speculate till red in the face.

So I think you are probably right.

However I also suspect that we shall never know the truth.
Unless, armed with the true facts, Lord Lucan rides into the Amex on Shergar to reveal all.
‘Epstein Barr Virus’ - EBV 😉

I had Glandular fever/EB at the age of 19 - as many young people do (aka the ‘kissing disease’) but the complications from EB can include post-viral fatigue (ME) which can last for years and which I was diagnosed with. One tests negative for the virus at that point but as you say, the effects can linger.

Every time I had any kind of viral infection, I got a flare up of ME but not Glandular fever again.

There is also a further complication in that many people carry antibodies for Epstein Barr (having had glandular fever/the virus/come into contact with the virus) but the antibodies they are left with themselves cause an autoimmune response which can be triggered by stress and fatigue. While the autoimmune response has symptoms of Epstein Barr and ME/post-viral fatigue, one still tests negative for the actual virus.

If Ferguson had Glandular Fever last season, it is definitely not possible to rule out ME or autoimmune EB and why a Club would still want to sign a talented player who has that - as it would be a case of managing fatigue, exercise levels, stress and diet. It is something that improves with time.

Bit late now! If he goes out on loan again next season and has to drop down a division, his potential sale value will drop like a stone.
Not convinced by that. I mean what exactly is happening to his value while he sits in our reserves or does nothing in the ten minutes per game he gets coming off West Ham's bench? It's not rising is it?

It was an odd choice West Ham, the way they play and I didn't even think they needed a striker, the whole deal looked rushed. I wonder what went on behind the scenes but coming on in the 92 min takes the piss a bit. He should've gone to Celtic or Rangers or a Championship team on loan.

I would have thought West Ham and Potter were anticipating Ferguson being better than he’s been. They’re struggling and could really do with a decent striker, unfortunately he’s not it. Lets face it, if he looked better than what else they’ve got, they’d be playing him, Potter wouldn’t cut his nose off by not playing him.

The boy needs a reality check in the summer, he’s a long way from being a PL footballer at the moment and needs a move to a lower league either permanently or on loan.

I don't think it mattered where he went. We've ripped off West Ham probably with a loan fee and wages. Hürzeler told us Ferguson wasn't as fit as he thinks he was and not fit enough to start. Presumably Hammers have similarly scientific assessments to Brighton and also now know he is not as fit as he thinks he is. For whatever reason, he can't get fit enough to start, so he doesn't. Goodness knows why though.

It's beginning to look that way, sadly - and very much in hindsight as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah, the longer this situation goes on the more it looks like a fitness issue of some kind. It should absolutely be in West Ham’s interest to play Evan and thus convince him that his future lies with them. Their season is effectively finished so if he still can’t get more minutes than he currently is in these final 9 games, it doesn’t bode well.

Based on his 25minutes Monday, I’m not surprised he didn’t get many today
