Prague is an absolute winner.

Went there earlier in the year with the missus. Dodgy water supplies though - started drinking on the Saturday at 4pm, got in at 3am on the Sunday morning absolutely ratted :drink:.

We woke up and the whole of our district was without water. Had to walk around Prague all day on my birthday smelling of Becherovka (an evil local spirit) with eye bogies and bed hair.:nono:

Talin, Riga and Budapest have great reputations and very good plumbing.

Impressed with Helsinki when I visited, a short trip across the Baltic from Tallinn, possible to do both in a weekend

Without doubt the top five have to be:

Rome
Prague
Dubrovnik
Krakow
Amsterdam

Without doubt avoid Barcelona like the plague. I hate it.

I can't believe nobody has mentioned Stockholm. It may be a tad expensive but it is easily one of Europe's finest cities.

København is a great place too

And Rome

Not one of the largest cities in Europe but my personal favourite is Maastricht, obviously doesn't have as much to offer as all those listed above but is well worth a visit. It is the oldest city in the Netherlands, has many different influences as it has at times been visited by the French, Germans, Belgians and possibly even the Spanish.

There are plenty of bars and fine restaurants on offer, if you plan to go there either visit at the end of August when the main square becomes a food market or in early spring during Karneval when everyone dresses up and gets completely lorded for a week.

I lived there for a year and a half and have to say that I would willingly go back tomorrow.

Seville
Lisbon
Rome
Montpellier..............great for a long weekend, real french city and great historic quarter

Leningrad:lol:

Just back from Barcelona and would certainly rate it right up there whether you're with family, partner, mates or whatever.

Got to see Espanyol beat Real Madrid at the Olympic Stadium. Only saw two guys wearing English club strips and they were both Albion fans!!!! The stripes blended in well with the home colours.

Verona (best food in Italy)
Antwerp (best beer in the world - as pointed out above, Brussels is also a good bet)
Edinburgh (great city)
Porto (they make port there - need I say more?)
Ljubljana (like Prague but without the tourists)

Maastricht is regularly voted by the Dutch themselves as the "Best Holiday City in the Netherlands".

Carnaval is worth seeing once, I'll grant you, but worth avoiding on repeat occasions, unless you enjoy watered-down beer and listening to THE worst music in the world, bar none - so crass it makes the Birdie Song sound like Beethoven.

Who were you working for in Maastricht Gully?
