Take the Japanese motor assembly bases in the UK. Toyota, Nissan and Honda are here because they have limited quotas of cars they can import directly into the EU block. To exceed these quotas they have to assemble cars within the EU block. I doubt this arrangement could be protected by a reciprocal trade agreement.

Why have Ford shut down their UK transit operation and moved its manufacturing base to Turkey? The Turkish factory has recently been supported by funds from the the European investment Bank, a bank the UK has recently lent £1.7bn.

It does not look like being in the EU protects UK manufacturing jobs at all does it?

Let's be clear then... you are saying you are sure that our trade will improve even though european markets will be harder to get into as our products will be taxed and cost of production may be increased due to the lack of cheap labour force and the increasing cost of raw materials from abroad?

I may be wrong but your glib answer didnt really prove anything did it?

Quick example.... as Turkey is outside the EU it is forced to pay high tax for goods to enter the EU... to balance against this they therefore increase the tax on foreign products to offset... the result is that a basic petrol Nissan Note new will cost you 15 thousand pounds here. How much is it in EU UK?

Turkey doesn't have the same trading terms with the EU as Norway or Switzerland. Neither of these countries have taxes added to the products and services they sell to the EU - as would be the case if the UK left the EU and negotiated the same terms. France and Germany ( as well as other EU countries ) export lots of goods to the UK. It wouldn't be in their interest to tax OUR exports as we would then do the same to theirs thus making their goods far more expensive in the UK.

As for cheap labour - why would leaving the EU prevent us from allowing people into the UK from Eastern Europe ? We already allow people in from Asia who provide cheap labour ?
