We're arguing two different things I think. I'm not disputing that Clegg was further right than Ashdown or Steel, but at any point in time they have never been anything other than further right of Labour but further left of the Conservatives. They have always been the natural home of those uncomfortable with voting for the two main parties.Sorry but that just isn't true.
Clegg and his 'Orange Bookers' were firmly right of centre. That is why they felt so comfortable jumping into bed with the likes of Cameron and Osborne, who were further to the right economically, but did share their socially liberal views.
