Spot on, I don't see how anyone can't understand this

I don't think anyone doesn't.

I actually think football could restart tomorrow, everywhere, with crowds, but the 'at risk' folks should be advised to not attend. If you then pick up the virus, take it home, with the potential to infect someone (family) at risk (over 65, or with a suppressed immune system due to, e.g., treatment for cancer) you simply isolate them for 5 days (they will be retired or too ill to work, probably, anyway), then test yourself using one of the new reliable home tests*, and until you get the all clear, you tell the vulnerable person to stay alert.

I'm quite serious. You won't be able to do much different until we have a vaccine, no matter how long we wait. The risk of spreading will fall, all the while we continue 'lock down' but when lock down ends.....a football stadium will be a super spreader soup. So we might as well just end restrictions at football now. Sadly I'll have to give up attending games, but at least it will restore life for the under 50s who are virtually unaffected by Covid themselves, so we are told (see below).

There is an alternative - a hard lockdown till the numbers of new cases really is so low it is close to homeopathic. But we aren't capable of that (certainly not with the present government), unlike the Germans and some others, so perhaps we should trust the people to shelter their vulnerable relatives while they get on with enjoying life and contributing to the economy.

*Oh hang on. From https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coron...-for-a-test-to-check-if-you-have-coronavirus/

You can ask for a test:

for yourself, if you have coronavirus symptoms now (a high temperature, a new, continuous cough, or a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste)
for someone you live with, if they have coronavirus symptoms

OK so if you are one of those apparently large number of people who get the disease but don't get the symptoms you can't get a test, so basically to be safe you need to keep any vulnerable people in your home (or workplace if they are lucky enough to work) in isolation permanently while the football season is on, just in case.

That won't work will it?

Scub that, easing lockdown won't work without a vaccine after all, because we are not testing on demand, and don't seem to have any plans to test on demand.

Who knew?

I agree with your synopsis regarding supporters NOT attending, and the wider pandemic and lockdown.

But we’ll have to agree to disagree on PL matches starting from 17th June. Of course it may still go wrong and be curtailed, but comprehensively and frequently tested club personnel, with a tight action plan for positive tests, gives reassurance. Players are free to bow out entirely and stay at home all summer. Any lessening of lockdown has an inherent risk, more people will die than if we all stayed at home for 12 months, but economies and professional sport are on the move across the world.
