Tahir likes an appeal doesn't he. Appealing for lbw when coming from very wide around the wicket.

We're still waiting for Broad to 'become' a decent no.8, he's been touted as an all-rounder but his bowling has been below par in this match and his batting doesn't seem to be improving either. Their no.8 Philander has scored 96 runs in this match, I don't know how many runs were scored in partnerships with him but it makes a big difference if you can rely (sometimes) on you no.8, Swann is a reasonable no.9 but really our batting ends after no.7. I won't complain though if Matty steers us to an unlikely win!

Broad's definitely been off-form this test. However, I read that he's the leading wicket-taker in the world this year. Somethings not quite right with him at present, but the good sides rely upon stability, and not dropping players due to temporary drops in form.

I'm disappointed by the overall performances by England in this series, but one bad series doesn't make us a bad team. There's huge positives still about the current English set-up and the future looks good. I think that Finn and now Bairstow are looking good, and I'm sure we'll bounce back from this relatively poor series.

As for being totally outplayed; that only happened in one test. We're still in with a (extremely) slim chance of winning this, and salvaging the series, so, as I see it, we can't have been totally outplayed.

He does seem quite annoying, does Tahir. I like him playing though. It stops the Saffers whining on about Trott and the likes, without coming across as massive hypocrites.

From Anon, via text on 81111: "Re. Paul at 1602. If South Africa win will their players get a secret congratulatory text?"

Now, now...
