Is this really going down fighting?

I think this is just going down. Outclassed in all departments by a better team. Top order, middle order, bowlers, fielding all better from SA for pretty much 3 test matches.

Swann, Anderson and Finn to come.......still need 138 runs.

Prior needs to keep the strike.

Without doubt, but this approach is more refreshing than our traditional way of trying to block it out and STILL losing.

We do seem to have a polarised approach to batting which the great sides (SA, Aussies 90's, WI's 80's) don't, in that we either seem to be all out positive, or all out negative. All through this tour each SA player has treated his wicket with great value playing very few high risk shots, but still being positive to the right deliveries. We seem to go all out positive and get out to stupid sweeps and hooks, or go really negative and get out to run outs and caught on the crease.

I still think there is not too much to be critical in our attack, occasionally they do not bowl as a unit which SA have done consistently, but they will always take regular wickets, whereas our batting has been unreliable and lacking purpose, especially once the first 2 wickets go down.

England are/were on the verge of being a very very good side and we seem to be letting that opportunity slip through our fingers.

Prior has NEVER batted for his average.

Indeed. I can't think of a player in the HISTORY of world cricket to whom that could be levelled any less. He's sacrificed his wicket dozens of times trying to rescue situations from the middle order collapse.

Had it not been for that SHIT little session last night, this could have been an absolutely AMAZING final session.

We're still waiting for Broad to 'become' a decent no.8, he's been touted as an all-rounder but his bowling has been below par in this match and his batting doesn't seem to be improving either. Their no.8 Philander has scored 96 runs in this match, I don't know how many runs were scored in partnerships with him but it makes a big difference if you can rely (sometimes) on you no.8, Swann is a reasonable no.9 but really our batting ends after no.7. I won't complain though if Matty steers us to an unlikely win!

There has been more than one shit little session for England in this match....

Its been a pretty even Test, to be fair. Don't forget that SA were 50/4, too.

If we'd not lost those two wickets for none last night, and were 200/5 now, this final session would have been an EPIC.
