Well, I didn't see that coming after Centurion.........

Quite a turnaround. But most of the England team were ill during that test. Shows how poor South Africa are at the moment. OR England have suddenly become brilliant? Perhaps somewhere in the middle.

Root's coming of age as a test captain?

Innovative fields, proactive bowling changes, seemed to be ahead of the games rather than behind it. Easy when you're playing well I suppose, but we seemed to see more inventiveness from Root here than we've seen previously. New management having an impact perhaps.

Very encouraging for England with a couple of blooded top order batsman showing a bit more application than the last few guys up there. Pope coming in to the side looking every inch a test batsman too. Lovely.

And yes, I feared for Root's future after the first test.
