Any future for him in Capello's squad?

Clearly Capello rates Beckham, presumably because of the way he fought for his place in Madrid, and he's now also done the same thing with England. But Heskey is another in this mould - model pro, proving himself several times over, not shitting on people on his way up. And last night proved that he's still got it - dunno whether you've seen his goal, but it's class. He wins a header mid way into the Portsmouth half, and is off like a hare waiting for the through ball. When it eventually arrived, he smashed it past James with supreme confidence and technique. Top goal, and I'm wondering what Capello will make of it.

Great player. I see Martin O'Neill seems to be attempting to take Michael Owen to Villa Park too, which is a stroke of genius imo.

At £3.5m, that is without doubt the BEST bit of business done this January (at least on Villas part). Works like a trojan, completely unselfish, superb attitude and temperament, and Agbonlahor will benefit hugely from playing off him. If he can stay fit, he'll help keep Villa 4th at worst.

£3.5m for Heskey, when you've got mugs like Bellendy going for £14m ? I know who I'd rather have.

Is this the same Emile Heskey that was universally ridiculed as an England donkey a couple of years back? Or are there two players of the same name? ???

Exactly. He was shit, got back to basics in club football and came back even better.

A footballing equivalent of Steve Harmison

Its the same player tho. He's probably not changed his game that much since his teens. Just confirms the gormless bandwagon-jumping stupidity of the vast majority of football fans IMHO.

Emile Heskey = a modern day Peter Beardsley

He doesnt score a lot of goals but the amount the he sets up for everyone else.........

Very different style of player...but I agree, he may not score by the bucketload, but he brings the best out of a number of other players.

Top player, very much improving with age too.

Exactly what I was thinking - I'm sure there's a lot of football fans who have changed their tune, although to be fair Heskey has improved a lot since he was dropped from the England squad. I find it quite funny though that everyone around now seems to be of the opinion that he's a football fans' player, even muppets on 6-0-6 assure the host that they appreciate what a good player he is to someone who understands the game, I'd like to have seen them pop up a few years ago and tell everyone that though.

Great bit of business for Villa though, and would be brilliant to see Owen there as well.

He's been excellent for England whenever called upon, however I think Carlton Cole has overtaken him in the pecking order and would expect Cappello to give him the nod, especially when our next couple of games are friendlies.
