Heskey is CLASS, England need that sort of player who doesnt want to grab the headlines in The Sun the next day.

On Cole, He IS a good player, not as good as Heskey but still a god player and he is doing well at the Hammers, where he is TOP scorer!

This is comical - does anyone want to admit that they thought he was shit and that they ridiculed him openly on NSC? Shall we dig up some old threads? What a bunch of hypocrites.

Like Chappers, there's no hypocrisy from me. I've always rated him, and there's the proof:

He'll never be a first choice striker if we're going to win the World Cup, but he's now above Crouch in the pecking order and he's WELL above Carlton Cole. Cole may be running into some form, but Heskey is a proven class act.

Heskey has got better over the last couple of years because he's rediscovered his strengths. His strengths are with the ball at his feet, commiting defenders and creating space for others. For a while he was used (particularly by England) as a battering ram, they would feed him with high balls. When that happened, he lost his confidence, and started playing badly. Play to his strengths and he is great.

You've forgotten his movement off the ball. England's glory boy strikers tend to run RIOT when he's pulling defenders all over the shop.

I think the goal he scored of Wednesday highlighted perfectly what he can bring when confident. Won a header, immediatly turned to win the next flick and finished brilliantly. If he can form a decent partnership with Agbonlahor and get on the end of some Ashley Young crosses then he could easily score ten or more goals by the end of the season.

Always rated Heskey - can check through my previous posts if don't believe me.

But yes seeing him in the flesh at Fratton on Tues night made me realise just how much work he does and how good he is at bringing down balls that have been lofted 50 yards or so from Friedel/defence. Villa's defence were absolutely outstanding as well that night.
