I think you can get away with poor distibution when you play at centre back but when playing left or right back poor distibution seems a bit of a crime. Thats why in my opinion Lynch looks much better at centre back and so did Hinsh when he was playing both roles in what seems like seasons ago now.

Also why I rated Richards quite highly.

I like Martot as a player. He's a good battler and has the technique to go with it.

The only thing I can say about Martot, is that he's better than nothing.

He,s not up against nothing though but Frazer, Cox, Robinson, Reid, Loft or Hammond.

He might be better than Loft but thats it on what we have seen so far.

Are you seriously suggesting that that list represents a strong enough midfield squad?

I was hoping we'd make a concerted effort to go for Darren Currie in the transfer window. I get the feeling that a move for Martot will rule that out. Shame.

DK will no doubt be pleased since I doubt Martot was too expensive.

I actually quite rate Martot. I think he gives us something different in midfield to the predictable stuff we seem to have developed recently.

Good decision IMHO

Good work.......Dick!

What the f***. So out of O'Callaghan, Savage, Richards and Martet he has managed to sign one of them, and the least effective one of them. If I was that crap at my job I would have been sacked long ago. Sorry but you can't congratulate DK on this one, he has f***ed up, and can only be saved by two or three good quality replacements coming in quickly.

I'm happy enough with Martot staying.

Simple fact is that although he's not a world-class winger by any stretch of anyone's imagination, beggars cannot be choosers. OK, so he hasn't looked fantastic every time he's played (which of our players has this season?) but he's put in enough solid performances to suggest to me that we could do a lot worse than keeping him around.

I agree entirely with that - I think Martot is a decent player and I am more than happy to see him staying here. At least he seems capable of 90 minutes play which is more than Savage or Robinson have proved this season. Both of those were good coming on as impact players but couldn't give 90 minutes consistent form

Totally agree with those who say Martot is a waste of space. Again wasting wages, suppose he must be cheap? What has Wilkins got against Paul Reid and OGH?
My New Years wish "Were all wrong and Martot prooves to be the loan signing of the season". Yours Walt Disney

Martot? f***ing HELL. He's RUBBISH! What the HELL as he achieved so far? Approximately bugger all. Yet we're going to waste wages on turd like him when we've got Robinson, Cox, Reid AND Hart who can play in the position. We need a Savage replacement, and we need to sort out the DISGRACE in the middle of the park. Signing yet another anonymous midfielder is just silly. Wilkins = IDIOT

Have to agree with most of that... surprised we are after Martot... smacks of desparation to me...

Good point... Currie or Martot? Hmmm... I think Currie may have the edge! :)

And you're a mug if you think that:
a) Martot is significantly worse, based on his limited performances this season, than Cox or Robinson, who have both been desperately poor in recent matches. Martot might not have set the pitch alight but if you can't see that he has a decent work rate and is capable of scoring and creating goals then you deserve to watch the two young wingers turn in increasingly dissapointing performances week on week.
b) We need competition for places (for reasons I have clearly stated). Martot is not a definite start but he is easily capable of competing for a spot on the bench or in the first 11. We already have a small squad, as long as we're not paying him silly money (which I highly doubt) then he can't fail to be of some use.
c) Who do you think is lining up to sign for Albion? We'd be lucky if we found another 1 or 2 wingers who are willing to sign and are capable of being much better than what we have at the moment. At least with Martot in the squad we have some solid cover at the very least. I just don't understand this attitude that Brighton have an enormous pool of players all desperate to be given contracts - every transfer window people expect us to sign a host of fantastic players and almost every window we're suprised at how little actually happens - there's a good reason for that!

Oh, and great news about Elphick who is missed greatly at the moment. Not too bothered about Lynch either, he's been pretty poor recently and I'd be happy to see Butters back in the side (please?!).

I just can't agree that we should attempt to re-sign any player who has clearly done little to warrant a new deal (Martot)... we should use what limited resources we have on better options, e.g. Currie...

Hopefully we'll have another couple of French players turn up on trial next month. We seem to have good contact over there who can get us half decent players. A striker and midfielder from the French league 1 would be good start to the New Year.

Martot has had more assists than Hammond or Callaghan.
