Dubai, why do people go on holiday there?

Haven't a clue, probably because it offers something different and is relatively cheap to get there on some sort of a package deal, much in the way that Torremolinos, Famagusta and Lanzarote were in the late 60's and early 70's.

Just what is the difference between a 5 star and a 7 star? What do you get in a 7 star that you don't get in a 5 star? I know there are a number of hotels who promote themselves as 6 or 7 star hotels but are any of them actually better than places like the 5 star George V in Paris...I don't think so !

A colleague has just pointed out that historically Brits have always gone for excrutiatingly hot places with a good sized ex-pat community to make them feel at home and which also resemble a building site. Dubai is simply the latest in the long line, the new Torremelinos?

24 hour butler service, pillow menu,Meaning what stuffing do you want in your pillow, blankets turned doen every night with free gifts put on your bed such as hand creams chocolates & perfumes. Shall i go on. Oh yeah the cheapest room there is £900.00 pounds per night but that does include breakfast.

No it's not!
You can stay there for £400 +/- change for a king suite that included breakfast for hubby and I, jacuzzi bathroom, plasma TVs sea view blah blah. Fantastic hotel but we stay in two others during our time there and should we go back I would pick both those over this one - al Maha and another whose name I am blanking on right now.
We have been Dubai on the way back from Kenya. Somewhere to go once just to visit, not enough to see, do or explore to make me want to go again. The shopping is OK but nothing you can't find online or in your local shops.
We had a nice time, people were very friendly and the food was amazing. Wouldn't go back by choice though.

I assume you are talking about the Burj?
