Absolutely this! Little Britain in a nutshell. More people could easily get public transport and that’s what they’re trying to encourage here too. People need to get over selves. An extra tenner isn’t going to prevent you going on holiday. If it does, you’ve got your budget planning seriously wrong. If travelling for business, you probably charge it back on expenses.

That covers quite a few.....but not things like the elderly couple picking up their visiting offspring, neighbours doing someone a favour etc. Gatwick isn’t anywhere near all holidaymakers.........but anyway, we’ll all have to suck it up......would be nice to be able to actually get on a plane atm

Why wouldn’t they be getting the many more sustainable, safer and easier options already?

Just seems normal to me to take 4 family members to Gatiwck in the car and drop them off as they go back abroad to live, nice to spend a few more precious minutes with them and not have them have to pay about £60 on the train either.

In that scenario it probably makes sense and is £2.50 each. But for loads of others it’s single passengers, who could get train from wg Three Bridges or one of the many underused buses that run to and from airport. I’m happy to pay the tariff personally. Or find alternative choice. It’s important to remember we have a choice. Nobody’s forcing us to go on holiday.

Will be interesting if and when it gets crowded and your stuck in there with the click ticking which happens a lot in peak times
The south terminal idea is good but a family lugging cases and kids I don’t think will want that but will be interesting if my business can last that long

Elderly shouldn’t be driving Offspring, as fully grown adults, should be able to find their way to and from the airport. If not going on holiday or business, what else using drop off for. Employees definitely shouldn’t be, and are told so. Anyway, as you rightly say, we need to get used to. Nothing can do about. It’s a positive move IMO re: environment and reducing congestion / hazards in the parking zones in true airplane style!

The cost is irrelevant.
If they want to increase the revenue stream why not increase the passenger service charge and add £5 for every passenger who wants to use the airport whether they arrive by train bus or car.

They will moan make no mistake about that .But like Gatwick my business has suffered dreadfully with still pretty much no work nearly 11 months on
On airports alone I’m nearly £30,000 down

No, it’s just the airport owners trying to recover losses/squeeze more out of the punters............they might hide behind ‘sustainable solutions’ and other such bollox but it’s just getting a bit more where they can. As for the trains, I couldn’t even count the number of people I’ve seen miss flights whilst on the (delayed) train going (or not going) through Gatwick.......

That’s an opinion rather than a fact though I understand your sentiments. I’ve missed flights because of traffic. It happens more than trains for sure. All part of the fun!

30k down is more than most earn! All relative I know, but right now getting by is good enough and much better than an awful lot so we all have to be grateful for what we have I guess.

Gatwick is losing probably the best part of £1B, and passenger numbers might take 5 years to recover. A few NSC’ers have made it clear that they hope this is the end of mass travel by flight, to help save the planet, so it might never recover.

I don’t blame the airport this time around.

It funny - I find that whenever I'm there to collect somebody who only has a little bit of hand luggage, I ALWAYS fancy a McDonalds coffee...

I've always found a quick text if i'm getting picked up as i get off the plane to someone parked near Gatwick . The time they have got to the shell garage 3 minutes walk from North Terminal does the trick ,buy the cheapest thing in the shop works every time .

All this does is create problems elsewhere. Just because the f*****g morons who run Gatwick see it as an opportunity to raise cash. So - when people start getting into accidents on the slipway of the airport because the taxi has dropped them off short or such like, then we can all sue the premises for unsafe roads and lack of customer care/health and safety etc etc.....

Can see the McDonald's and petrol station becoming a mass drop off site and accidents as people get run over rushing to cross road to walk to terminal . That and cars backed up to the roundabout as people are dropped off at the nearest available non paying point. it will be carnage and cause a lot of accidents .

Charge people arriving by bus and train a £5 fee as well as cars. Will help the airport recover lost funds quicker. People spending stacks of money anyway to fly are hardly going to miss this trifling added cost.

They’re probably fibbing, Gatwick have form eg flights over Sussex towns.

But I really don’t blame them for the financial reason. I don’t buy the argument of the poor elderly couple collecting their poor family. Flying and travel is a luxury. You and I take lovely holidays costing £xxxx. Businesses paying for air travel necessarily aren’t potless. Some might bag Easyjet bargains, but then spend £100’s or £1,000’s on hotels, booze, meals, transfers and other leisure.

The average punter at Gatwick is not poor by anyone’s measure.
