My objection is Johnson has made this decision without Parliament. He is acting like dictator without accountability.
Don’t get me wrong, if Sweden joins NATO then we automatically protect members, but if Russia invades or commits an act of hostility, now we are bound to protect them.

When I did Peace and Conflict Studies at the university, we had to read "Killing Hope: U.S. Military and CIA Interventions Since World War II" by William Hope. The list is looong...

There's no power block in the world that's acting purely out of a sense of selflessness, but my thought process is that the world is a better place with a strong NATO. Without it, countries like Russia, (and I've no doubt in due course China) will continue a program of territorial expansion with all the human misery that entails.

If the world was a better place then we would be better off without a militarily dominant single superpower and allies forming a block. But that fact that all NATO countries are democratic with an open media means there is a bulwark in place against those countries, openly carrying out mass murder, rape and acquiring territory by force

Well Belgrade got bombed shitless by NATO without a UN mandate or an attack on a NATO member in 1999, but they got a free pass in the end.

Once Johnson starts launching air strikes without UN mandates like that or even invasions on other sovereign states based on dossiers of lies we could start using the D word.
