I have never been a big fan of the EU, but what it is is infinitely better than what America has right now, and quite honestly, like so many of the utterings issuing forth from the fetid mouth of that imbecile, this would be hilarious if it was a spoof. Sadly we are stuck with him a while longer.

I've been following The Shallow State, a psychiatrist, for years, first on Twitter, now on Bluesky. Trump checks all boxes for sociopathic narcissism. The Shallow State identifies and analyses Trump's pathological acts and behaviour at each one of his rallies, interviews, conferences, etc.

The Shallow State -- on Bluesky

George Conway (Kellyanne's ex) has been a Never Trumper since 2017 and invested himself and millions of his own money to combat the GOP, e.g. The Lincoln Project, PsychoPAC, The Bulwark, Unfit: The Psychology of Donald Trump and Untruth: The Psychology of Trumpism (documentaries), campaigning with Kamala, etc. etc. This article he had printed in The Atlantic was probably the first long-form reportage to publicly and loudly call out and list Trump's pathologies.

💯 As I’ve said on the Ukraine thread, people need to stop viewing Trump through the lens of rational decision making. He makes decisions like a narcissist, which is very different to how most people think.

Didn't realise US had a champagne business. Or is the champagne region about to become the 52nd state?

Think we can all see he is narcissistic but this really brings it home, he is truly unhinged. How on earth have so many fallen for this pile of:shit:

Tom Nichols, one of The Atlantic's distiguished editors, has likely put his finger on the principal reason for Trump and the now-fascist GOP: boredom.

Trump Voters Got What They Wanted -- Those who expect that Donald Trump will hurt others, and not them, are likely to be unpleasantly surprised.

"... Yes, some voters still stubbornly believe that presidents magically control the price of basic goods. Others have genuine concerns about immigration and gave in to Trump’s booming call of fascism and nativism. And some of them were just never going to vote for a woman, much less a Black woman.

But in the end, a majority of American voters chose Trump because they wanted what he was selling: a nonstop reality show of rage and resentment. Some Democrats, still gripped by the lure of wonkery, continue to scratch their heads over which policy proposals might have unlocked more votes, but that was always a mug’s game. Trump voters never cared about policies, and he rarely gave them any. (Choosing to be eaten by a shark rather than electrocuted might be a personal preference, but it’s not a policy.) His rallies involved long rants about the way he’s been treated, like a giant therapy session or a huge family gathering around a bellowing, impaired grandpa.

Back in 2021, I wrote a book about the rise of “illiberal populism,” the self-destructive tendency in some nations that leads people to participate in democratic institutions such as voting while being hostile to democracy itself, casting ballots primarily to punish other people and to curtail everyone’s rights—even their own. These movements are sometimes led by fantastically wealthy faux populists who hoodwink gullible voters by promising to solve a litany of problems that always seem to involve money, immigrants, and minorities. The appeals from these charlatans resonate most not among the very poor, but among a bored, relatively well-off middle class, usually those who are deeply uncomfortable with racial and demographic changes in their own countries."

Explains a lot, really, when you look at the demographics who vote for Trump and Repubs, and prefer to stay cocooned in their sheltered, right-wing bubble. And how the autocratic-minded billionnaires who own the most influential social media have shortened attention spans and created algorithms and an unsatiable appetite for quick and frequent adrenalin hits.

The great thing about this group from a leader's' point of view is that you don't have to improve or even really maintain their standard of living, you just have to make sure that other groups visibly suffer more. They won't be watching you piling up the billions.

If you watch Trump supporters giving interviews they all appear to be unhinged as well. I guess they recognise him as one of their own.
