So the war must go on forever then. No point in trying to stop it ?

People are trying to stop it. Zelensky is trying to stop it, and a whole host of other countries are trying to stop it. The only ones not trying to stop it who are at the centre of this situation with any real influence are Trump and Putin. They're just looking to profit from it.

There's a real simple solution to ending the war which Trump just doesn't want to acknowledge because he knows that his buddy Putin won't agree to it. And if he did it would deprive Trump of the opportunity to try and profit from it.

no, this is an odd line of thinking, they just aren't that clever. in the build up Zelensky is schooling them on the history, the fact Russia doesn't hold to their agreements. actually Trump is giving off some "ok, didn't realise, fair point" gestures, while Vance is just gnawing a bone. then Zelensky makes some comment like "maybe you'll feel the pain" and Trump blows up like it's a direct threat, that escalates like a scene from a Scorsese film. a different wording and they'd have carried on their uncomfortable but amenable meeting.

Yes that comment didn't fit in with the Trump's agenda which is always about him looking Mr Wonderful at the media circus.

Zelensky being kicked out of the WH after the press conference was always going to happen.

Expecting him to start negotiations by signing the minerals deal in isolation to all other factors in the peace process so that Trump can strip the country of its wealth and make himself look good was never going to happen.

Trump believes he holds the much better cards.

He's expecting Zelensky to fold.

I'd say he barely thinks about the uk. But if his deliberate actions, or deliberate lack of them does us harm he's our enemy. Passive or active

Demanding security guarantees, what does that even mean? Boots on the ground? European boots on the ground and a world war…Eff off, not happening.

Zelensky did sort of explain this in the meeting by listing all the times in recent history that Russia have reneged on their agreements. If there is a ceasefire - then what will be there to stop Russia simply resuming their invasion once they have rebuilt and rearmed? What Ukraine are almost certainly asking for is something along the lines of 'if there is a ceasefire, and Russia break their promises - then the US/NATO will step in to help Ukraine'.

The difference is Russia are a spent force. They might be able to bully a small country like Ukraine. But if they are given a little something to go away, they won't be back. Because if they do break their word they will be blown to smithereens especially if it's a NATO country they go after.

That's what Ukraine / Zelensky means by a 'security guarantee'.

The speed with which Trump left the Oval Office, booted up his machine (he doesn't use a phone) typed out his Truth Social post was impressive. Almost as though it was already written and waiting to be posted......

No one in this conflict is 'good' or 'perfect' not Zelinsky or anyone else - they are all out for their own ends and for want of a better word - cash. All this euphoric bloodlust posted on NSC over recent hours calling for the world to unite and attack Russia under the banner of some banal hashtag just sickens me. I have seen evidence of such suffering occurring to ordinary men and women I just want this war to end, however that happens. I have a son, I would fight to stop him fighting a war for money men and hashtags. I think you are being manipulated by someone richer and more intelligent than both of us under the guise of a giant Ukranian flag covered in hashtags and it scares me. I just want peace not more countries entering a war with no obvious victor?
