But that's the bit of his position that is palatable. There is the other bit which you've overlooked where he seems to think the right thing to do is accept Trump's self serving position that Ukraine should concede all territory lost and just suck it up as it is the only way to ensure peace. That's the bit everybody has a problem with.
No

My position is that he can't change trumps mind. And to argue this in front of the media was embarrassing.

To defend @dwayne for a minute here. Zelensky’s approach of going all in with his heart on his sleeve was not the right call with a big thin-skinned cry baby like Trump. You have to let people like that think that they are in charge, and charm them into thinking that what you want to happen is their idea

I’ve always found this idea that ‘bullies appreciate strength’ to be complete bollocks. They don’t like that at all. They like to feel like they are in control, and that’s what Zelensky needed to do here. To make Trump feel like he was the most important person in the world, who’s place in history was going to be secured by ending this war and saving thousands of lives, and gently coercing him into the way to do this that works best for Ukraine. I think a more skilled political operator could have done that.

“We all have to suck a bit of cock sometimes” is one of the best bits of advice I’ve ever been given. As unpalatable as it sounds.

Tbh, I'm absolutely sick of seeing every man and his dog suck trumps cock because of this reasoning. Its been happening for donkey's years, since way before he became as powerful as he is now, and where's it got him? To two fecking presidencies of the most powerful nation on earth. Time for those who can to start standing up to the ****.

I went for a beer with my left-wing brother this evening, who has utter contempt for the way Starmer 'capitulated' to Trump yesterday.

I changed the subject. :lolol:

I don't believe in war. I don't think that's disgraceful. I'm definitely too old to fight. But hey ho.
What does "I don't believe in war" actually mean? Wars do happen. So what you're actually saying is that it's always worth doing what bullies tell you to do because you're not prepared to defend yourself and your people.

I don't think Zelensky did go "all in with his heart on his sleeve" though.

The fact is Zelensky had already given Trump considerable latitude today.

Trump, once again, had trotted out the lies with regard to who had funded Ukraine's fight and how.

He brought up £350bh again (lie), that the US had given more than Europe (lie) and Europe's financing was a loan (lie). Zelensky did make a small attempt to put hte reoord straight, but then just let it slide.

He sat there and accepted all other kind of utter bullshit, again just letting it go.

It was when Trump then started talking utter bollocks about how a security guarantee was easy to achieve, that Zelensky thought it a good time to explain how often that had failed in the past and how Putin isn't the cuddly and reliable chum that Trump was making out.

And, I think that would have all gone OK as well, iunil Vance got involved with some utterly disgraeful comments.

Going back to the hard-of-thinking you are defending, he also seems to think Ukraine should just give up their land, give up their stolen children, have to self-fund their reconstruction and consider themselves thankful. It's dim-witted nonsense.

All this happening in the messed up chaos that is the 21st century, but the King of England is still relevant.
I’m not a huge royalist (I’m royal agnostic), but if Charles came out tomorrow and said “invitation revoked, you fat orange slug” (or the equivalent in diplomatic terms) then I’m off to buy a tea towel with his face on

I've just realised this is a masterstroke by Trump.

He can now go back, and say that he now believes that the only way to get a lasting peace with Russia, is to have American troops on the ground in Ukraine, with the full backing of NATO, so that if Putin decides to rip up the peace deal, then Russia has to fight America, and NATO.

However the only way to effectively achieve this, is if Ukraine becomes the 51st state of America.

That way Trump and Musk gets access to All the Rare Earth Minerals in Ukraine.

I know what you mean.

I am not sure that fellatio is entirely necessary though, if I'm honest.

Occasionally murmuring "that's very interesting" is probably sufficient

But Trump would just say "Oh, I don't remember ever being invited. But anyway..."

War hasn't happened in England for 80 years. Regardless, I'm honest about it, I love this country but I wouldn't fight for it if I had the opportunity to get out. I'm sure the majority on here if they were asked exactly the same question and were being completely honest, would say the same thing.

So they land across the beaches of Sussex, create a front from Chichester harbour, up to Horsham and across to Hastings thousands of your neighbours and countrymen dead. You’re not going anywhere, you’re now occupied and under the control and rule of the occupier. Your assets are now not your own, and you may well be forced to work and do shit you don’t want to do. This will happen to the rest of the country unless someone fights.

Your comprehension of what being invaded or occupied means is astonishingly naive - fly off to Thailand, I mean WTF are you on!?
And in fact be forced to fight for the new invaders against your countrymen..

That 'unprecedented' invitation for a second state visit matters greatly to him. Easy to do as Buckingham Palace is closed to state visits due to renovation so helicopter to Windsor or Balmoral is what will happen.
