You'd need a large number of Democrat senators and representatives to vote in favour in order for an amendment to happen (2/3s of both houses). And all of the GOP. The constitution was designed specifically to prevent this sort of thing from happening. Which it wont.

Oops, sorry, was meant to reply to @Dinner with Gotsmanov !
You think the constitution means a damn thing anymore?

They have already shown that they will ignore the constitution. Seizing the power of the purse from congress and blatantly ignoring laws passed by congress (see shutting down USAID without any authority, for example). That is 100% unconstitutional. That's article one of the constitution. They are ripping the whole thing up. All of it. And the GOP is happy to let them do it.

That's how I see it too.

Another factor is the sheer volume of crazy stuff being enacted in so many different places all at the same time. It makes challenging anything incredibly difficult. And that's just the stuff that is visible - there's sure to be things going on that no one is aware of yet.

It's an extreme version of "it's easier to ask for forgiveness than ask for permission" - just break everything as quickly as possible because if and when the challenges do arrive, it will be too late to do anything about it.
I think we also underestimate just how big the US is. Most get their news from local versions of the main media or from social media..so something happening in wyoming is as remote as something happening in Guatemala. And something happening in california or Washington? Well they deserve it as they're rich woke commies.

I try not to talk about US politics with my US colleagues but this week one raised the gaza situation as a good idea. They had no idea what or where gaza was but believed it was an anti American area that was responsible for terror activities like 9/11 and that Israel were trying to keep the US safe and now needed help. As most of the terrorists were dead there were only a few hundred people who needed relocating while the clean up operation took place.

When I asked where they had got this from them said it was from X and it was from blue tick accounts so they know they were experts.

Tbf this was the same person that said in 2018 that uk were great as we had expelled the invading Europeans from our land due to brexit.

Btw this person is an educated individual who runs a major data management operation out of the Chicago suburbs.

The only aspect of the constitution that seems sacred is the ability to shoot each other with military grade weaponry.

I’m sure there’s uncontacted tribes in the Amazon that have a better understanding of world affairs than a whole swath of insular and wilfully ignorant US citizens.

Don needs to release the Epstein files.

The problem is that he now again has access to those files so even if he did release them any compromising content relating to him will have been removed and destroyed. He may have already taken these measures in anticipation of the files being released by someone else in the future.

Getting people to complain about people arriving and leaving is quite a feat of propaganda.

They have done well.

The US has amended the constitution five times…

There are 27 amendments…with the latest being as recently as the 90s.

Amending the constitution is nothing like as unusual as many think. That said, it’s really not an easy process. Unless, of course, both Houses and the President are from the same party - in which case it’s somewhat easier.

Thanks.

I have looked them up. They are things like a bill of rights, and the abolition of slavery. Others concern oppressive and abusive behaviour by militia (police) and such like, and seem

I was surprised to find this:

Twenty-Second Amendment
Passed by Congress March 21, 1947. Ratified February 27, 1951.

Section 1.
No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once. But this Article shall not apply to any person holding the office of President when this Article was proposed by the Congress, and shall not prevent any person who may be holding the office of President, or acting as President, during the term within which this Article becomes operative from holding the office of President or acting as President during the remainder of such term.

So this is a new(ish) thing.
Perhaps Americans won't mind it being repealed, after all

Quite so.

He's already strongly talked about Canada being the 51st state and recently Greenland. This is surely going to stoke Putin up of either happens as then Russia has even more reason (in his eyes) to stop the West wanting to "take over Russia"
