James O'Brien is a skilled broadcaster and I enjoy listening to his show even if I don't always agree with his narrative. One of his biggest skills is convincing people that his opinions are all fact and evidence based.

As with most of this thread it's just your own confirmation bias. O'Brien HATES Boris, Brexit, JRM and most of the current government and funnily enough everyone on this thread, who also share those beliefs, thinks everything he says is evidence and fact based.

Just like they're all willing to take every word of Dominic Cummings as gospel now that he's taken aim at the government, whereas a year ago wouldn't believe anything he said.

No, actually, it requires no skill whatsoever. If you quote from what someone actually said and is widely available, or researched facts generally published online or other widely available sources, and these are broadcasted, there's no ambiguity, quite easy really. He hates the peope in this government because they are lying toads who say one thing and do the opposite.

Not sure how you derive reiterating researchable facts is a skill which needs a convinving argument to back it up with.

You will notice also, he doesn't allow people to call in and spout rubbish and he will often ridicule them which some people interpret as being arrogant. If you compare that to, for instance, Nick Ferrari today, who reignited a debunked theory about China and Covid then alllowed tom, Dick and Terry to call and spout nonsense and hate about China, a presenter clearly in someone's pocket to peddle a divide and rule agenda

He only deals in facts, we were promised an awful lot by Johnson and his cronies and they have spectacularly failed to deliver on nearly all of it.

Absolute garbage. JOB voices his opinions but when he attacks the current members of the government or any topic it is nearly always backed up by evidence form other sources.

As for Cummings, I'm not sure there is anyone on this thread that consider what he has said as gospel. As others have pointed out, a lot of what DC has said is merely confirming what was previously thought. It will still need to be validated by evidence which, in the case of Hancock, he said he was going to provide.

Cummings is obviously still lying about Barnard Castle as it's an amazing coincidence that the security threats corresponded with his wife's birthday. He also sings the praises of Sunak who happens to be best friends with the political editor of the Spectator for whom Cumming's wife works! It's not a case of believing everything, just sifting through to see what is and what isn't credible.

What a prize he is. Misquoted the author, I notice. Of course, he may only remember Al Wilson's version from his all-nighters at the Wigan Casino, but perhaps he's blissfully ignorant of the real author: https://www.theguardian.com/news/2005/jun/01/guardianobituaries.jazz. Knowledge of Brown Jr's life and politics would certainly make using the song's word with racist intent, troubling for anyone other than a narcissistic ignoramus.... Sorry, my mistake, move along.

He's on safe ground there really isn't he? That bullshit story would have been cooked up in conjunction with various people in government, including possibly Johnson, so he can continue to peddle it.

But very very fair.

Would it not be advisable to move away from the vitriol of the bear pit? If folk wish to continue with the petty vendettas then do so via private message. The whole NSC experience has been responsible and pleasant since the mods closed the pit. Time to move on.

Fair point.... as long as posters on both sides of the argument are prepared to do that.

Will you refrain from cryptic 'Bearpit' references? Will others who hold similar views do the same do you think?

If so, maybe we can all turn a page on that and concentrate on holding the Government to account on their response to Coronavirus

Indeed...it all got very out of hand, pretty much since the referendum.... time to move on..opinions differ, every one is entitled to their own. Shake on it?

It did get out of hand.

I don't think anyone talks about the referendum now - just its aftermath, which will be with us for many years to come.

Unfortunately many people (including some I know and like) are now struggling economically and it isn't possible for them to 'move on'.

So I think the best I can do is to separate the person from the opinion and focus on making the argument that we need to change direction, (without rancour if possible).

I can be a critical friend without having to pretend to be comfortable with what I consider to be a monumental error by this great country and a morally bankrupt government. It's not personal.

And there's the whataboutism. If you can't argue, then ignore the main point and find something you can distract with. Call it what you want. If you don't like this vernacular, try 'palpably voting against their own material interests electorate'. Having grown up in a working class community in the South East and seen the class prejudice against middle classes and unearned trust of anyone with a title, a posh accent or a smattering of Latin, I call it what I see it to be. There was a time when the famous Frost Report sketch was a correct analysis of the UK class system. Today Corbett and Cleese's characters would have to be shown as entirely content looking up to and down on each other providing they could join together in kicking Barker's character for representing any possibility of there ever being some progressive change.

The bit in bold is where you are missing the point. Actually they just disagree with you. That’s all right in a democracy.

Even if you think I am lying about supporting the Albion from the Chicken Run during the sixties?

I'm likeable, but not gullible....and I do get stirred up when cajoled into agreeing to palpable lies.

The Democrats finally got rid of Trump when they realised they had to work together to defeat him. Previously the attitude of Liberals saying "Well, I can't bring myself to vote for Hillary" had opened the door for Trump. They also realised that every politician has some baggage but you have to compromise sometimes. People like Dianne Abbot and Peter Mandelson have to stop squabbling and start talking to each other like adults or this Tory fiasco will rumble and blunder on for years, or perhaps they are OK with this so long as they can score points and get their own way

I have not missed your point. I have dismissed your point. Your argument is circular and irrelevant to the main point at hand, which I suspect may be your intent.

Of course people in a democracy disagree. That doesn't mean that each individual is not allowed their own interpretation of circumstances. I have provided mine. You can say that others disagree with me, but that goes without saying and doesn't advance the argument in any way. You haven't addressed my statement in any way. If you want to argue, tell me how working class people are not voting against their interests, don't just say that they don't think that they are.
