Their first album was decent(but Yellow probably the worst song) and The Scientist was good, but after that they went very dull and then they tried to be fancy and went shite

Absolutely cannot stand Coldplay.

Elbow though, on stage at Glasto on Sunday afternoon with the sun shining and a couple of ciders in you (and them). Not the worst thing in the world. I'd love to have a pint with Guy in a proper pub and I'd expect he'd just be good, fun conversation. No surprise that Chris Martin went to the pub and couldn't resist being Chris Martin The Popstar. That's the difference.

First album was great (Apart from Yellow). A lot have been a bit meh for me after that.
Saw them live at one of the V Festivals just after the release of Parachutes. They were on about 4 in the afternoon. Chris Martin then introduced Muse as the headline act on one of the main stages and was like an excitable schoolboy.

I like them (although certainly not all their work) but can totally understand why many folk don't.

After their second album, I remember someone in the industry bitching on messageboards saying that Coldplay don't write their own top-line melodies/hooks.

I kinda dismissed it at the time, but they've since collaborated with Avicii and the ruddy Chainsmokers (both clearly for the cheesy hooks), and borrowed huge swathes of previously published work from Jon Hopkins (with a credit buried in the liner notes).

Viva la Vida was produced by Brian Eno... who doesn't receive any writing credits, which is highly suspicious given that he does for subsequent releases. (I believe Eno fell out with U2 over writing credits).

Quite interesting that they're now alternating (relatively) experimential album releases (Ghost Stories; Everyday Life) with all-out pop (A Head Full of Dreams; Music of the Spheres) produced by Scandinavian hitmakers.

It's desperate stuff, really... but they're playing SIX nights at Wembley Stadium, FFS!

Never heard any of their songs and wouldn’t recognize them if they walked past me in the street. I’m open minded though. Are they any good ?

How long have you been living in a cave? I’ve been whooshed here haven’t I?

Like them. Like Keane. Both good live and with a huge amount of great tunes. I've never been cool, couldn't give a monkeys what anyone else thinks but I find the active loathing of Coldplay a really odd social phenomenon. If you don't enjoy their music listen to something else. Plenty for everyone. Simple.

Difficult when they are overplayed on certain radio stations, great if it’s my radio or choice of station as I can change it, but this isn’t always the case.

Seen them live a couple of times, got most of their albums yet rarely are they a go to type of band.

They come on in the car quite a bit but that's generally because I've listened to something else beginning with C and they are next up.

Coldplay pre 2010 - absolutely yes.

Coldplay now - Not for me, Clive.

However they are still a fantastic band and very good live IMO

I saw a live Coldplay concert on the television about ten years ago. I seem to recall one truly excellent track, and the rest quite dull, bordering on irritating. I have nothing of theirs on my iPod

For music in a similar vein, Keane are the other way round, and I bought Under and Iron Sea, a terrific record, despite the singer looking like a young 'call me Dave' Cameron.

I just asked Mrs T to remind me what she thinks of Keane. She says she dislikes them because the singer is a c*** :lolol: Doesn't mince her words, Mrs T.

Back to Coldplay, one problem of theirs is with a name like that you expect them to sound like the classic French Coldwave bands like Norma Loy, Asylum Party and Little Nemo.

This (below) is a tremendous track, and what coldplay might have become had they sorted their silly selves out

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VeZtT8zBaZU

Alternatively, I might like coldplay more if they changed their name to 'Cheerful Tuneyboys'. Yes, that would work.

What's the the massive Yamaha badge on the back wall? Have they 'sold out' for a free DX7 keyboard? :lolol:
