There's a really simplistic narrative always present:
Play careful, patient football and win 1-0 or 2-0 = hooray, very pragmatic and intelligent victory!
Play careful, patient football and lose 1-0 or 2-0 = boo, very boring and cowardly

Play intense, back-and-forth football and win = so good, so energetic, playing like the best bla bla
Play intense, back-and-forth football and lose = so naive, so chaotic, more show than results

The general lack of nuance indicates a poor understanding of the true nature of the game.

Not at all. They were euphemisms to describe the passing game currently being played by the Albion. If you know about football you would know why this style of play is being used by the manager

A scatter graph would be perfect for that, revealing a low goals/high possession outlier club.

Here’s some revealing stuff, from the EPL website.

2020/21 - 46 in 38 games = 1.2 big chances per game.



2021/22 - 10 in 12 games = 0.8 big chances per game.



Patently we’ve gone from mid table creators needing a better striker, to a basement lack of creation where it matters club needing a better striker.

Anyone here who suffered the soporific nothingness in the second half versus Newcastle, Smellhurst, etc etc would see we’re really not at the races this season.
