What, that they're now on a par with Swansea City, Oxford United and Swindon Town as league cup winners? :D
Well, yes. But I have to disagree with the Rt.hon Lady about them being entitled. I don't think it's unreasonable for them to think that it was about time they won something. It's incredible that it has been so long.

I don't agree about Newcastle. They seem to be constantly resigned to their fate. I'm not sure they quite believe today has happened.
Haha yes, my Geordie mate is so pessimistic it's unbelievable. Always thinks they will lose, especially against us. I am pleased for him and the Newcastle fans in general as they are mostly great.

I think they've always just annoyed me a bit with all their whinging about how tough they had it because Mike Ashley and they got relegated to the Championship a couple of times.

I mean, if the worst thing that's ever happened to your club is spending a few years in the second tier, then you're not doing too badly, are you? Same with United fans moaning about the Glazers because they're mid table in the Premier League. If Amorim by some miracle got them top three next season, they'd drop their Glazers songs in a heartbeat. Arsenal fans whining about their owners previously when they were fourth or fifth in the PL.

Bit of perspective needed, IMHO.

A moderator of NSC (who we both know, I suspect) stated a few weeks ago that 10th in the EPL is the 'new normal'.
With success comes expectations.

Sorry, did I say success?
Silly me :lolol:

Manchester United are indeed a different breed.

I remember a conversation with a United fan who lived in Woodingdean. 'Why are you not an Albion fan ?' 'Because they are shit'

I then told him he must be a glory hunter, or 'third class fan' as I call them for some reason. Geordies are far from glory hunters. For obvious reasons. I don't think there is a team that has managed to punch so far below its weight.

With Newcastle it's slightly different. It's not that they expect success, its more that they believe somehow that they feel the pain of lack of success more deeply than the rest of us.

The radio this morning was absolutely dripping in it, that they love their team in a way other supporters just wouldn't understand, that winning something, anything, means more to them than it would to a 'regular' fan.

They are going to be insufferable now that they've finally got their trophy.

You’re joking, right? Surely even the most six-fingered Ipswich fan could see that going to a club with seven PL seasons and a European campaign in its recent experience was a step up from one that was recently in League 1. That’s even more deluded than Leeds if they really did think that.
Nope, there was a big group on their forum who were convinced he stayed because he had more chance of winning something at Ipswich than here. Maybe they meant next year's EFL Championship?

To be fair, another group of wiser heads tried to point out they would need several premier League transfer windows to get anywhere near our present squad, but got nowhere with the fantasists.

Leeds are a big’ish club. But not near to the levels their fan base think. So many clubs have overtaken them in the last 25 years, by quite a distance. The football landscape has dramatically changed while they’ve been in the Championship & League One.
You have to remember that Leeds is in Yorkshire and that Yorkshire is about 3 decades behind most other counties in England. So there’s your reason why that penny hasn’t dropped with them yet.

Yes -THIS - I f***ing hate this. It is a trait they share with Liverpool fans. 'This means more'. f*** off.

No, no it really doesn't. Your success and failure, your highs and lows, mean the very same to you as Brighton's, or Mansfield's, or Hartlepool's highs and lows mean to their committed supporters.

In fact they don't even mean AS MUCH as to some of those - they've never, after all, had to suffer genuine existential fears about their club's future.

Because we've progressively improved over the last 15 years and gained new fans. He doesn't like new fans and firmly believes that any fans that support us in the Amex era are only there because of the PL.

"You only have 3,000 fans in the early 2000's" etc
I had a sort-of similar conversation with a QPR-supporting mate, but he's more slightly resentful of 'teams like...' clubs being in the PL, as opposed to 'big' teams and often saw them as making up the numbers. He's not awful with it though and has a soft spot for Brighton but that's his view (probably because when QPR were in the prem there were maybe more 'historically' big teams.

Funnily enough, I had the conversation with him on the day of the Brighton/Bournemouth game, which turned out to be an absolute cracker. I did point this out to him and he conceded it was a pretty good advert for the PL. I'll add that I have a bit of a soft spot for QPR because of him and would love to see them back in the PL – along with Cov and Leeds (but only in the hope that Leeds get smashed every week and end up a worse team than Southampton or that Derby side in PL history!).

Absolutely spot on. Newcastle fans know NOTHING about real suffering. So they had to watch some boring football under Mike Ashley, cry me an effing river.

I can happily confirm that they all have massive headaches and look like crap. No early signs of insufferable bragging...give it a few days

Agree. Stereotypes exist for a reason, and people from Yorkshire are insufferable for their loud big-headedness, Scousers for thinking they're the funniest and friendliness and Geordies for believing they're the best and most hard done by fans ever.

Meanwhile, down on the south coast, we're just humbly basking in the best sunshine in our entire history knowing it'll be raining again soon enough and a 99 with a flake in the meantime is pure heaven.

I do like Stereotypes, especially their debut album.
