Leeds are a big’ish club. But not near to the levels their fan base think. So many clubs have overtaken them in the last 25 years, by quite a distance. The football landscape has dramatically changed while they’ve been in the Championship & League One.
In terms of affiliated supporter clubs, they're actually in the top 5. That said, there are loads of definitions of a big club, and outside of Man Utd and Liverpool there are several clubs all of a broadly similar size and whose fans can realistically dream of semi-regular silverwear.

It should be remembered that Leeds have been in division 3 fairly recently, so they're not that big.

Don't be arrogant as well. No team in the premier league is a guaranteed six points.
We failed to pick up 6 points from Southampton this season or Sheffield United last season

You will arguably struggle to find two worse PL teams in the last 20 years than them

I sadly have a Leeds fan who works for me and he spent half an hour last week explaining (with an absolutely straight face) that Rutter will hand in a transfer request as soon as Leeds’ promotion is confirmed. He also is under the impression that (and I quote) ‘the worry for the Premier league elite now is that we (Leeds) know what to expect. So this time I can see us in the top 4 - our experience now will tell and we’ll be pushing for champions league. Biggest attraction in Europe ‘.

He’s only one I know. But Christ on a seesaw that’s delusional.
Sounds a bit like the general consensus on the Ben White thread on WACCOE. It hundred's of pages starting from post 1, where they can't believe how good he is from his first competitive game - not quite fitting the narrative that the season with Leeds made him the player he is. This progresses with the realisation that we didn't allow a transfer clause in the loan agreement but they remain convinced that he'd be signing for them, especially with the 20-25m offers being made and with him definitely going to hand in a transfer request. Even after he signs a new deal with us they are certain that he'll be signing for them at the end of the 20-21 season when we're relegated and that we'll not be getting a 25m offer for him again.

50m plus extras from Arsenal, wasn't it?

Many fans from many clubs talk like this. When we tried to get McKenna from Ipswich last year, their forum was full of sages who were convinced he stayed with them because he had more chances of making Europe -in their first season in the Prem- than he would at Brighton. Nothing to do with him getting double the money!

You’re joking, right? Surely even the most six-fingered Ipswich fan could see that going to a club with seven PL seasons and a European campaign in its recent experience was a step up from one that was recently in League 1. That’s even more deluded than Leeds if they really did think that.

He's a really decent guy in most ways other than football
It seems he is a bit like a Sheffield United equivalent of Rory Jennings who has a fixed idea of which clubs should be amongst the elite (apparently based on historical fanbases) and Brighton is not included because of a relatively humble back story.....

I think there are some in every fan base who are delusional. There are plenty on this very forum who seem to think Brighton &Hove Albion should be qualifying for Europe every season and can directly compete with the “big 6” on transfers.

Sheff Utd.
Leeds (because I want them to fail badly).

Bristol City or Coventry.

It does feel the gulf between the divisions is growing year on year.
I'm anyone but Burnley really. I'd be more than happy with the above.

Think the minds of some get clouded, they start to feel invincible when they’ve won 30+ games in a championship season and with few defeats they think they’re unbeatable but they forget the jump.

I listen to Ben Fosters podcast and they had Troy Deeney (🤮) on and he was talking about that Watford team that demolished us at the Amex 1-3 with him and Vydra up front and stormed the league. He said he remembers his first few games thinking “we are so so bad”. It wasn’t that they’d got worse obviously, just that the Premier League players are absolutely levels above.

Perhaps it is because I don't personally know any but Leeds fans really make me laugh.

I don't really subscribe to the Leeds hate, they have ideas above their station but you can't really argue with the big club status they harp on about. My only argument would be that they haven't done enough to be considered amongst the big boys, by most people's metric they would be well outside the stature of the top 6 and behind clubs like Everton, Newcastle and West Ham.

I think it's probably that same Big Club logic that makes their little minds believe that because they have a lot of fans, they have an automatic entitlement to success on the pitch, as evidenced by every single Everton fan who's ever proclaimed how hard done by their fanbase is because they flirt with relegation every year, or every The Leeds United fan who thinks they don't deserve to be in the Championship (see also Sheffield Wednesday, Portsmouth etc). And Newcastle, who are also entitled to trophies because of their Incredibly Loyal Fanbase.

I don't agree about Newcastle. They seem to be constantly resigned to their fate. I'm not sure they quite believe today has happened.

What, that they're now on a par with Swansea City, Oxford United and Swindon Town as league cup winners? :D

*I mean, I wouldn't turn it down if we were in that position, to be clear....
