Difference being though mate, humans can if motivated enough, stand up for them selves, little dough-eyed calves can't.
Fair point, but humans often need help to organise and motivate themselves. Compare the miners to Gareth's Norwich Union Employees!

Animals protesting about animals....... don't give me that cobblers, vast majority of the anti-globalisation tribe are exactly that, a tribe of anarchists of no fixed abode for the most part, doing their best just to smash and grab as the opportunity arises.

steer clear.
Oh dear oh dear! This started off as a rant about a dead horse and now we're going to end up discussing the merits of anti-globalisation protests! Only on NSC eh?

........ On second thoughts perhaps we'd better leave it for another day, this threads already run to 11 pages, I think we've all got a bit worked up and need a nice cup of tea. Sugar?

NONSENSE!

Just in case you missed it, there was a big anti-globalisation march along Brighton seafront on Sunday. Most of the people taking part were supporters of organisations like Christian Aid.

Depends. Are you using a teapot? If you are then it's no sugar for me but if you are behaving like a luddite and putting the bag straight into the cup then it's one suger for me please.

London Irish must be at lunch as I know he will have a 2 page report on the miners strike and the history of mining since 1740 and whose is to blame for it all ( probably the Americans ! ).

The Fair Trade people represented a broad cross section of society. I was there ( passing out Falmer stuff, no big deal) but they behaved very well. Did'nt see a whole lot of extremists just people who care about bigger issues that a football team with no home.

Having just finished "The Moral Animal" by Robert Wright I blame our inherited genes:

The morally upright, the morally indignant, the retributionist, those who appeal to natural justice or emotional integrity, they are all just protecting their hidden masters, their own selfish genes (the astonishingly powerful survivers of the evolutionary battle to the death with other selfish genes). The moralists might happen to be right (if there is such a thing) in some circumstances but their motives are thoroughly suspect. And what's more evolution is so amazing a process that to date it has even hidden from us the power to understand our own motives.

Many of us are convinced that most of the time we are being rational and sensible and fair. In fact the only thing we have been shown to be are vehicles that unconsciously, but cleverly, protect our own genes at others' (and indeed sometimes our own) expense.

Whatever, but remember, if you put the milk in last you are middle class Tory scum! The politically-correct way is milk first, then tea. This is because in the olden days the hot water used to shatter the earthen mugs the workers used, so they put a splash of milk in first to cool it down. Rich Tory bastards with their high-quality bone china didn't suffer from this and would add the milk last.

There. Milk First! An NSC campaign I'm sure we can all agree on.

On the other hand, you'd probably think dumping a dead horse on a main throroughfare was a good idea if it was actually part of American culture. ;)
