North Portslade actually
Fair play to you, eat sensibly and look at the cycling thread! Start slowly and build up the miles. (see your doc first though if you are worried).
Why not set yourself a fitness goal for the summer? Sponsored walk or cycle ride?

Good luck fella please keep us posted as hopefully it should make some great reading, all going well, esp as many of us will be joining you.

I went to my doctor, about this time last year, with my recurring bad back.
Being a keen road cyclist, I'm always at my heaviest now, and can shift a stone, quite quickly (cutting out beer, chocolate and drinking more water), anyway dr says your back would be better if you lost some weight.
All very blaise, I replied the above yeah yeah no worries, he then said 3 stone should do it :ohmy:.
Tough nut to crack, which I didn't, last year.
So will try again, with you, this.

Initially the target is caricket in May. At the moment washing up is tiring!!! thanks for your encouragement everyone, appreciated. Today going ok, but i do hate evenings as its my worst time. A, planning on 3-4 small meals a day (small in lo-cal/low fat etc). I worked out bma etc and aim to eat 1750-2000 cals a day with plenty of water. today has been mostly fruit, crispbreads, weightwatcher meal. and a short walk into town. once again thanks to everyone

In rehab
I have for obvious health reasons (Heart problems) to lose a heck of a lot of weight. I weigh 336 pounds (24st-2lb)! My aim in 2010 is to lose 6 stone at a manageable 7 pound a month. That will get me down to 18 stone. Once achieved I would like to get to 16 stone for the first Falmer game. As the usual Slimming clubs are a bit pricey for me, I will bore NSC with occasional updates and you have my permission to give me grief any time:smile:
not that permission is needed for that of course.
I am determined to do this.

Good luck mate.You don't need slimming clubs,pills,gyms etc just willpower.

Just change what you eat/drink and the amount.Nice strolls in parks and wooded areas is all that you need.I lost 6 stone.:thumbsup:

Ah - now I just want to point something out in case you are doing it;
Don't beat yourself up with admonishments about what tires you, and how breathless you get doing some simple everyday chore. If these things are tiring, then they are also losing you calories!
You might struggle to tie your shoelaces or clip your toenails, but something is getting a workout then - be it stomach, leg and arm muscles, or heart and lungs.
Activity = shedding calories.
Think positive :bounce:

Also - not sure about the strict calorie regimen. If you have a good workout and those muscles feel the burn - then you can still afford to fuel them with a few carbs (without fats).

I had a flatmate when I first got to California who ran a gym and was a muscle-maniac doing competitions and stuff. He'd be prepping for a contest, losing fat and toning - but I'd get up in the morning and go to the fridge and find ALL my sugary danish pastries GONE. He'd do the lot in one night, then be apologizing and sheepish about it - mostly feeling bad that he'd screwed up his own target I'm sure. But ALL the pastries in ONE GO!? I mean really, that must have been some craving he was suffering.

My trick was to stop snacking.

I stuck to 3 meals a day and ate whatever I wanted for those meals, but apart from breakfast, lunch and dinner I didn't eat a thing- no fruit, no biscuit, nothing.

This gets your stomach used to a steady pattern and cuts out a huge amount of calories.

Once I had mastered when to eat I slowly cut down my portions and gradually shrunk my appetite.

I also started playing football - 6 a side - once a week

DON'T EAT LATE! Yes I know it's nice to round off the night at the pub with a kebab or burger. Do that and you will simply sleep with it inside you.

This is a bit of an urban myth. See

But NMH is right that kebabs are a no-no. In fact, his post contained much excellent advice.

Good luck with your efforts, it sounds like you're doing all the right things. As others have said, keep us posted on your updates - I think NSC tends to be supportive when it comes to this sort of thing.

Another thing I did when I was losing weight was to eat loads of melon. Cut it up beforehand so it is there for you to snack on, and then just keep eating it throughout the day. It's mainly water so it will help your intake of water without you really noticing, and it does stop you feeling hungry too. On the Slimming world plan it was a 'super slimming food' which helped you lose weight quicker, but I don't know how true that is in the wider picture though

Celery is also mostly water, but so much so, that you actually lose weight eating it, because you burn more caleries digesting it than you take in. It is great to snack on too.
