PS: There was nearly half an hour to go and it took us to 2-1 v Leicester. I was there - it was one of our better performances in the 2nd bit of the season. 1 goal across 2 seasons is disappointing to say the least but that goal v Leicester could have been an important one.

I believe he did, but it also came off Lichtsteiner so that might account for Propper not being credited with an assist.

If there's ever a post which misuses stats, then this is it. You make the point that maybe we'll get a tune out of him by pushing him higher up the pitch and then you use goal stats to berate his performance.
If you go and look at the stats, he and Stephens are essentially identical stat wise and anyone that has watched the team for most of this year will know that they spent the first half of the season as the deep lying pair in front of the CBs, and the second half of the year as a flat three in front of the CBs, with neither ever really crossing the half way line. What does that tell you?

Propper is another who was criminally underused by an overly defensive manager. Brilliant footballer, I thought everyone could see that but apparently not.
He'll thrive in an attacking team, I think we have a number of players who will be totally transformed next season.

Those who like to go over the half way line will certainly be a revelation imo. We know all about our defensive strengths which I am sure Potter will need to employ during matches, and be very grateful to CH for I imagine.
Best of both worlds next season I hope.
On balance I agree. The lack of "stepping up" has underwhelmed me. In his defence, he probably needs a lot more movement in front of him to be seen at his best.

1. Boring , defensive 1.0 defeats
2. Exciting,attacking 3.5 defeats

I'm excited about Potter, he's a progressive coach with fantastic potential. Of course i want him to succeed but he's untested, its a risk and he won't have the funds this summer to completely overhaul the squad. So this assumption that he a) will "totally" transform every player b) make us an attacking , successful team just like that c) and that the Premier League for the Albion, presumably will still be a squad with players getting Burnley wages, will no longer be a hard slog is optimistic to say the least.

I fully believe in the players in our squad. Whatever they're getting paid, they're more than up to the standard of this league. What we haven't been is able to compete fully because we didn't have a manager/coaching staff prepared to allow the team to play to their full potential. We have seen snippets of it, when we've been losing games and needing to inject some urgency. Hopefully, Potter will have us playing with that purpose from the start of games, and not just if we go a goal down. I'm not saying we're automatically going to be in the top 10. But we shouldn't be anywhere near 17th.

Can you imagine being judged by a bunch of strangers on your ability in your job, when for the last two years you've been asked to stand in for a colleague in another department? Basically that.
He's obviously got the talent and composure, he's just been deployed in the wrong part of the pitch. The fact we stayed up is a credit to him being able to turn into a backs-to-the-wall, never getting past half way pseudo centre back.

Still don't think there is room for both he and Gross in a pacey, attacking line-up.
For me, one of our biggest recent mistakes was signing two decent but slow number 10s, and then refusing to play one there ever and the other there last season.

You're totally right. In fact you're right on every single point. And yet, as a person who wanted Hughton out by the end, I'm glad he's here primarily because I just want to have some hope and potential enjoyment out of going to football again. Isn't that why we go ultimately? Because of the hope that things can get better even if we have to be a bit realistic about the speed with which they become better?

In the case of Davy Propper that's very true, he should be pushed much further forward, (even playing as a numer 10), and scoring far more goals for us.
