Much as I like old Klip-Klopp, it doesn’t surprise me that referees hold these feelings for people that abuse them. I don’t think verbal attacks on refs are dealt with anywhere near hard enough.
This is a very fair point, but tbf I was thinking of non-refs rather than lower leagues.
In any case the much higher salaries that have been since revealed may have made my post irrelevant.
Luckily however I never let facts get in the way of a good argument….

My mate is a local non-league ref at a decent level, he actively dreads going to certain clubs because of the manager, players and fans. It’s a cliche but are humans, and humans on the whole dislike bullies. Some teams are moan moan moan, so he goes into games with that very much in his mind.

Couldn't agree more.
Where else can an employee go and spend his entire time at work abused and threatened by the crowd, players (trying to con the refs) and managers barking in their ears all match. I'm surprised anyone is willing to do it.
I'm sure all refs have grounds, crowds and managers they dislike officiating at - the biggest sin was Coote being daft enough to have his views recorded, and he's an idiot to have let that happen.
Personally I have no problem if they don't like certain clubs or managers but they just need to keep their views to themselves or express them once retired.

I really don't have a problem with this at all. He's perfectly entitled to his opinion. He didn't make the comments publicly, someone else has gone out of their way to make them public. If anything he's the victim in this situation. Yes he was naive to let someone film him, but again I don't think that's a crime and I definitely don't think he should be fired for it.

As the referee appeared to be talking to "an audience", I suspect the video came from a Whatsapp group so it could have been anyone.

This isn't really waht happened, there. Bobby Madley was very harshly treated, for a much lesser error of judgement that Coote's.
He never 'made disparaging remarks about the disabled' at all. In a family / friends group chat, after he'd been fat-shamed in a newspaper, he shared that picture we've all seen - of the Down's kid in a Reading kit running at a school sports day - with a comment along the lines of 'even he would beat me'. Someone he'd had a row with, leaked it.
That is it. That is all he did, and his career was seriously derailed off the back of it.
When he got reported, he was first suspended, for 'Gross Misconduct' but the actual reasons were not made public. Some Leeds fans started the dog rumour - something they traditionally throw at Huddersfield fans (which Madley is).

I agree tbh, there is so much money in football they have enough to pay them very decently.
Otherwise there will always be questions of impartiality and it you told me refs were putting bets on the games I wouldn’t be shocked. They don’t even have to bet on their games but could bet on each others having already decided what they will do, number of yellows etc - nothing that will change the outcome of a game but enough to profit off.
Easier to say as we won so no resentment ref cost us However I see often refs swayed by big teams City game was an example where I thought most of 50/50s went city way and seemed to get decisions everytime they appealed. Sure they are not cheating but gets in head when see big names DeBrone Foden Pep etc on field.

He recorded a six- second Snapchat clip of someone with a walking impairment passing his car.

I'd still argue that most people can see that he is making a self-deprecating joke at his OWN expense there, rather than the disabled person in question.

Anyway. Back to David Coote being so wildly biased against Liverpool for the past however many years.
You'd have thought, if that was actually the case, that he'd have taken the easy win of sending off Fabinho for a horrible challenge on Evan Ferguson that resulted in our player being injured for several weeks and left the Brazilian standing there with an expression guiltier than a puppy who'd just been caught pooing on the lounge carpet.
But no, that didn't happen (and nor did his VAR chum offer him the second chance, even more astonishingly). It's almost like Liverpool, as with all Big Clubs, actually get more favourable decisions than bad ones in the grand scheme of things. But they just can't see that in Red Country, can they?

The FA and local FAs don't really give a shit about refs, which mean we are left with a lower standard coming through
If Coote is sacked I hope the refs strike, I don't think refs are perfect, but they deserve better than the treatment they get

I’ve seen the alleged video and the thing that sticks in one’s mind is the odd sound that is made from the snorting process.
It sound like someone trying the blow the trumpet for the first time. Or when someone lets go of a balloon before tying the knot.
Hopefully NSC can get to the bottom of this! I’m intrigued!
