Can f*** off. Should be punished in some way, maybe a 3 year international ban.

Quite agree, he doesn't know what tiredness is. He should try working a 66 hour week.

Does seem laughable when players like Reo-coker has been in a relegation battle but still going to play for england in the summer.

Personally i think hes reputation will be tarnised enough that i don't think a ban is need. As say its between him and another player to play in the Euro's next year then hes actions now might count against him

I remember Sutton of Blackburn doing something similar. It affected his international career because if I remember rightly he was not picked again for many a year. (if at all )

As for Bentley would he make the same decision again next year if he was picked for the full squad approaching the 2007 Euros ? No I doubt if he would so he is making a statement that he does not think the under 21 side is important.

Bye bye mate.

Just chuckling at Charlton
It seems incomprehensible to me that a footballer would not want to play for his country at any level, but to use the excuse that he is too tired is unforgiveable in my book. Bentley is everything that is so wrong about modern day footballers, over paid, over hyped and wrapped in cotton wool by their agents and club managers. As Dougdeep says he should try working a 60hour week then he would know what proper graft feels like. Should never wear an England shirt again in my opinion. Utter cock

Its the poxy under 21's? Who cares- he isn't even under 21 anymore!
Give the kid a break i reckon. Remember, he is the only player to be involved in both teams and as such will have NO rest till a week before the next season.

I think a lot of people are flippant about how physically demanding it is to be a top player.
Incidentally- it was a brave a decision if you ask me. As Bentley said himself- it was either admitting he is knackered or the club pulling him out with a 'mystery illness'...something that almost every international player has been guilty of at some point.

Hmm I do tend to agree with this.

However instead of pulling out could he not have come to some agreement about not playing all the games?

I think its the lateness of the withdraw that makes it look bad.

I wasnt in the country but was Agbonlahor flamed as much when didnt turn up?

I can understand why he's done it - you wouldnt want to get muscle injuries because of tiredness, and screw up the next season.

Still is a shame that he had to pull out of england.

Agree about the lateness, however, some blame lies with McClaren here- why call him up to the first team if he had no intention playing him?

And Agbonlahor was barely mentioned- even though he was on holiday not answering his phone. At least Bentley had the balls to speak to Pearce.

Which does take some balls to upset him.

If you had been in McClaren's shoes what would you have done?
call up a player that could change a game and have him on bench to help save your job, or leave him in the U21 side?

More importantly can we replace him at this late stage?

We can't replace him- Pearces main issue.

My problem with McClaren is that i honestly feel he had no intention of playing him. He had the perfect opportunity in both games but he chose to replace Beckham with Jenas and Owen with Dyer in the Brazil game then Beckham/Dyer, Owen/Jenas, Cole/Downing vs Estonia.

Had Bentley had the last couple of weeks off i supsect he wouldn't of pulled out.

More than likely, I still think he could have come to some agreement with Pearce.

But he is still young and dont want another Dunn on our hands.
