I think Sussex needs more competition. I'm sure in the coming years a few more breweries will crop up giving you more variety.
I do appreciate what both bring to the scene, but Hophead seems to be the favoured ale of theirs which tastes to me like a tangy, creamy, sickly mess. Nothing can beat Harveys Best, Old, Porter and Armada in my mind.
I see we are going to have to work on you Notters........................ this might not be easy.
im not scared of change, honest! I was quite intrigued when I first discovered Dark Star but I haven't found an ale of theirs that I really like, though several that I find repulsive including Hophead, Festival and Espresso. Their bitter is OK...
Dark Star do like their hops Notters and that may well be why you are not so keen. Now their bitter is one I can do without just because I find it a bit bland and like so many other middle of the range so so ales. Not bad just ordinary.
Try the Original Notters...............that`ll sort you out.
I was gutted when K&B closed down, their Old Ale was a joy to behold...how many breweries are there now in Sussex?
More than I'd realised, when I read a copy of Sussex Drinker that I picked up in the Cricketers (Berwick) on Wednesday. Here goes:-
1648 Brewing Co - E Hoathly
Adur - Steyning
Arundel - Ford
Ballards - Nyewood
Beachy Head - East Dean
Dark Star - Partridge Green
Fallen Angel - E Hoathly
Filo - Hastings
Full Moon - Catsfield (restarting late 2010)
Gribble - Oving
Hammerpot - Poling
Harveys - Lewes
Hepworth - Horsham
Kemptown - Brighton
W J King - Horsham
Langham - Lodsworth
Rectory - Streat
Rother Valley - Northiam
Welton's - Horsham
White - Bexhill
Dark Star (in several of its many and various varieties) is always available in the Gardeners, as is Harveys, of course.Always loved Harveys but would willingly give Dark star a go. Anyone know if any boozers in Lewes sell it ?
Dark Star's lager is very nice too
