People said he was not going to play against Norwich or indeed in any game before this is all settled. Training is a different thing. I'll buy a hat and eat - I'll livestream it - it if he is playing against Norwich.

Not working out? His 6 goals last season were pretty useful.

Anyway, not the end of the world. This is DWs heatmap this season:

Basically more similar to a left winger than a pure striker and there's plenty of options for that role (March, Mac Allister, Moder to mention a few).

Do I need to zoom out to see the rest of it?

Gutted Welbeck is out. 'Some time' means January at least doesn't it or even longer if it's Lamptey. Welbeck gives us a presence, experience and finishing no-one else in our squad can. We'll be alright but think this could derail any 8th or 9th league finish we could have gone for. Wish the club went for a forward this summer. Has anyone mentioned that?

Feck that, I want you to ask Kosh for one of his rock star hats, you are not getting away with buying the smallest flimsy fabric hat you can find

I’d rather send him the hat that the wizard in the mr men books gave to mr chatterbox, you know the one that keeps on getting bigger the more he talks until it covers him entirely and he can’t be heard.

That’s the hat for my Swedish paradox.

Agreed on both counts. Obviously Biss is going to train, but not a hope he's playing until the court case.

Unless it's mutually agreed, the club withholding him from the matchday squad because of this before he's charged with anything is an employment tribunal waiting to happen.

Personally I would be surprised and disappointed to see him play before the date he's bailed for, ie 3rd Nov. Hopefully there will be no charges and he'll be free to carry on but if he plays before then he'll get the dogs bollox of abuse from other fans. That said, that doesn't preclude him training as he will need to be ready when called upon by the club.

No need to be disappointed as you know nothing of what happened and the club do - so if they play him it’ll be their decision given circumstances.

You're right, I don't know what happened and the club, unless they've been allowed to see any cctv evidence, only know what they've been told.

My view is that it wouldn't be appropriate to play him. Guessing you don't agree.

Sarmiento is more of a winger really, generally plays much wider than Welbeck likes to.

That’s the very reason why I think he’s the one to fill the void, when Welbeck and Maupay are both on the pitch together Danny plays as a wide left forward, we seldom see him as an out and out striker.

Edit. I see the Welbeck heat map illustrates my thoughts, Welbeck playing predominantly down the left.

How come? The manager can pick whomever he wants in the team. He will still be getting paid under his contract.

Not necessarily don’t agree - just think it’s a very broad spectrum of crime (trying not to go too detailed here) and the club will have been told the truth or as close to it as possible you’d think - no stone unturned…

Not ideal, but still plenty of options. Maupay, Connolly, Trossard, Mac Allister, Locadia, Richards, Solly, Sarmiento could all be used in some sort of front 3.

I know you are right.

The fact remains, Connolly (along with Mac Allister) looked incredibly dangerous against Swansea. Mac bossed it at No.10 finding Connolly’s intelligent and incisive runs.

Like Maupay, if Connolly is confident and not over thinking his finishing, he’ll easily get double figures, he has the natural talent.

Mmmkay. Looked dangerous against Swansea reserves.

If Aaron Connolly "easily" gets double-figures in the Premier League this season, then I will expose myself in Primark.

Please, please, please stop the speculation regarding an active legal case. It's not going to do anyone any favours at all.

Entirely predictable. Thats now 3.5 months of the season ahead heavily relying on Maupay not getting crocked and/or suspended - and thats IF we get someone in January (which I very much doubt).

We'd better hope for a decent spread of goals this season, or we'll be very much looking over our shoulders once again before long.

Even if Maupay stays fit, the pressure on him to come up with goals will be relentless. He is our only option. Even Callum Robinson is starting - and scoring - ahead of Connolly for Ireland, while expecting Tolaj / Ferguson to contribute at this early stage of their careers is optimistic.

I thought loaning out Zeqiri was the wrong decision at the time. The club have to bring someone in during the January window, I'm not expecting a permanent signing but a loan will at least take some heat off Maupay.

What did you see in Zeqiri to suggest anything other than loaning him out?

Nobody thought he was Zlatan.

But I sure wish we still had him as an option, now that Welbeck is binned off till the spring. And lets not play "captain hindsight", because everyone with a hole in their arse knew that Welbeck would likely be laying on a trolley for at least half the season.

I suppose we could recall Swiss Andy

Only if it says so in the contract. Same applies to Andone .......... or Sima .............. or Longman.

Anyway, penny to a pound we won't recall anyone in January., unless it's Jenks, whose loan at Aberdeen isn't doing him any good at all.

Except Sima cant play for Brighton until the summer due to FIFA rules.

Agree, I dont think anyone will be recalled either unless they are having a shite time in their club. Dont think there are any out-on-loan players that would strengthen the first team right now.

Like others have said the thing that is so frustrating about this is how predictable it was. Now we have two fit out and out strikers one of whom managed two league goals last season (and one of them was in the second match of the season).

All these posters saying we have other attacking options seem to miss the point that they don’t score hardly any goals. Mac Allister, March, Moder and Trossard managed a grand total of 8 league goals between them last season.

Being a centre forward is a specialist position and one we are now desperately short of. For all the amazing work happening off and on the pitch this is a continual issue that we just can’t seem to address properly.
