What did you see in Zeqiri to suggest anything other than loaning him out?

What I saw was that at the end of August we'd failed to land Gonzalez or Nunez, we were left with 4 strikers - one of which is Maupay, one of which is a crock, one of which is an idiot and one of which is Zeqiri.

Like others have said the thing that is so frustrating about this is how predictable it was. Now we have two fit out and out strikers one of whom managed two league goals last season (and one of them was in the second match of the season).

All these posters saying we have other attacking options seem to miss the point that they don’t score hardly any goals. Mac Allister, March, Moder and Trossard managed a grand total of 8 league goals between them last season.

Being a centre forward is a specialist position and one we are now desperately short of. For all the amazing work happening off and on the pitch this is a continual issue that we just can’t seem to address properly.
Well, yes - but March was out injured for almost half a season, and although Moder and Mac played in quite a few games, they were mostly off the bench, late on. If anybody thinks that Moder and Mac Allister don't look a far better goal threat than Stephens, Propper, Gross (apart from his first season) and - dare I say it? - Bissouma ............... well, that's an opinion, I suppose.

It's all about how many the team scores - it doesn't matter if they're not pigeon-holed as a centre forward (I remember those in the 50s, 60s and 70s!) or a striker. We'll do alright - won't be top six at the end of the season, but we'll be comfortably in the PL come next season - with some promising youngsters knocking at the door - there might even be one or two who can be labelled 'striker' - that should keep a few happy!

Unless it's mutually agreed, the club withholding him from the matchday squad because of this before he's charged with anything is an employment tribunal waiting to happen.

In all my years on NSC that statement ranks right up there as one of the most daftest ever.

The squad is 25 players and only 18 can be picked for the matchday squad so by your reckoning the club will be dealing with 7 employment tribunals after every fecking match!

What are you thinking? They're all on zero-hours contracts? No play, no pay? Have a think chum ....

We can all hope that the midfielders step up to the task and weight in with some goals. HOPE.

But the bottom line is - we haven't signed any strikers, and now we've (predictably) lost one of our primaries for the foreseeable. Our forward line is now highly diluted lemon barley water. We might get away with it, but I think by the turn of the year, we'll be looking over our shoulders once again. Which is a pity.

Not necessarily don’t agree - just think it’s a very broad spectrum of crime (trying not to go too detailed here) and the club will have been told the truth or as close to it as possible you’d think - no stone unturned…

You find some level of sexual assault acceptable.

Pretty gross tbh.

What a stupid comment. Of course sexual assault is unacceptable - but there are different levels. Bissouma is released on police bail until November, the Everton player is remanded in custody until January. Do you not think there might be a potential difference in the severity of the (alleged) crimes? Really? Seriously?

Nobody thought he was Zlatan.

But I sure wish we still had him as an option, now that Welbeck is binned off till the spring. And lets not play "captain hindsight", because everyone with a hole in their arse knew that Welbeck would likely be laying on a trolley for at least half the season.
As I attempted to put a 'comedic' spin on the situation on 01.09.21 with a thread asking when GPott would have no strikers, nobody is playing captain hindsight.

But neither of you have answered the question.

There's a huge gap between the Swiss second division and the EPL.

What did you see in Zeqiri, in all the games he appeared, to suggest he'd bridged that gap?

Because whatever you saw I didn't, and whatever you saw isn't evident to the Augsburg manager either.

What I saw was a lively young man who needed to go out on loan, because despite being better than the Swiss second division, was a long way away from the EPL.

Interesting, I’m pretty sure that the situation you’re describing with Zeqiri is similar to how many people view Connolly, but as you seem to have decided that Connolly doesn’t require a loan everyone else is wrong and is labelled a hater or some other silly name.
I have nothing against Connolly, I really want him to succeed, and I know this next sentence will sound silly but against Swansea he looked bang average other than the two goals. Now I know that’s what he’s paid to do but in the PL he doesn’t get the time like he did against Swansea reserves.

They club have to take the blame here. It was abundantly clear that we needed a number 9, the club failed to get one. We're not playing at the Withdean anymore, we're in the PL and sometimes you've just got to bite the bullet and spend that extra 5 million quid. Or this is the alternative.

The alternative is 14 points after 7 games? Nice.

Easy comment to make, Maupay gets injured or goes off the boil we don't now have another option and 14 points after 7 could become 14 after 17

True, but equally it’s easy to say we MUST get a new striker in. As has been said many times there aren’t many around of the necessary quality. Of those, even fewer are available and want to play for Brighton. A poster above mentioned being prepared to pay an extra 5 million quid. Of all the hurdles in front of the club I would suggest that is the least of their problems.

A very short list of available strikers.

Although if you’re suggesting zeqiri wasn’t up to it yet, then I’d agree.

And for those thinking we have £50m burning a hole in the bank, we don't.

Most of that was spent on : Scherpen (£2.5m), Mwepu (£18m), Cucurella (£18m), Sima (£7m) which is the best part of £46m, not factoring in the signings of Mitoma and Sarmiento. Yes, we've saved on salaries on the outgoing players, but I for one never expected a huge fee being spent on a striker especially after the signings made above. We just have to hope Maupay and Connolly stay fit.

I am sure a few hundred Euro would get Vahid Hambo back.... he must have found his potential by now.

Not sure that is entirely true if we were in for Nunez at £30M+, we will always find the right money if the right opportunity is there

I haven't decided anything about Premier League goalscorer Connolly, it's not my decision to make.

I would just like to know what it is about Zeqiri that makes posters think he's good enough to be one act of stupidly* away from a Premier League start.

From what I saw he looked like a player crying out for a loan - unsurprisingly when you consider where he came from.

*Nostradamustat can see a petulant red card from one of the other two, some time in 2021.
