[Albion] Danny Drinkwater

Chelsea would snap Tony Bloom’s hand off if he offered to pay half Drinkwater’s wages, no loan fee. Currently doing nothing for £100k a week.

He’s still only 29, but must be pretty rusty with so little match time, unless he’s playing with the under 23s. Experienced yes, but probably forgotten how to put on his shin pads. Made me laugh Sarri’s comment about Drinkwater not being suited to a 3 man midfield, something along the lines of “he can’t play in the middle, on the left or on the right in a midfield 3”. Only any use in a midfield pairing, so I suppose 3-4-3 or 4-2-3-1 might work for him

Yes from me.We do need another Central midfielder.A loan would free up funds for other targets.

Would be an upgrade on Kayal and Stephens.

Freeing up funds was never going to be a problem, Tony Bloom has said that the money will always be there to sign players. The club's issue is whether or not any signing is going to be value for money.

While Sarri not fancying him is one thing if Lampard, who should know a midfield player, doesn’t during a transfer ban then I’d say he’s either trouble or bang out of form or both. However, as someone else just said that was the sort of player Potter embraced at Ostersunds so this may well have legs. If it has more legs than Danny then it could end up a massive mistake.

I could see this happening, Franks been to our club a couple of times giving talks etc always full of praise. If things go tits up at Chelsea further down the line he’ll be looking at a smaller prem club to build his blossoming career.

As for Drinkwater on the sauce I would imagine a fresh start and the real possibility of game time would sort that out.

Don’t know how this fits with our no dickheads policy he was just done for drinking and driving. Also, he seems to have spent his time at Chelsea drinking away his 100K a week barely trying to get in the first team.

This would be a worse loan than Robbie Savage and that would take some doing.

I've been told he was only drinking water at the time

If someone was paying me £100k a week to toss it off and play golf then I may partake of the odd libation as well.

I know I keep banging this drum (Palace chav style) but when we signed Bridge he'd barely played football for two years and was technically the highest paid golfer in England.

Given the chance to play, he was a model professional and really, really good (despite the fact that we were only paying £10k a week of his £80k a week wages).

As others have said, who better than Potter to get the best out of such a player?

It's probably all bollocks anyway but it's still a yes as far as I'm concerned.

He’s got a great cv but he’s hardly played for ages.
He’s been in trouble off the pitch.
He’d see coming here as a step down.
He’d be a very unbrighton like signing.
Direct him to West Ham or even better, Palace

Half our squad has been done for drinking and driving?

Very true, but Potter is notorious for helping troubled players work on their demons and rediscovering their love for the game. I share your reservations, but if anyone can rejuvenate Drinkwater it'll be Potter.

Fair enough, but if it were to happen hopefully there would be some clause that allowed us to cancel the loan if he didn't knuckle down

Also he's put on a bit of weight lately. A bit of a tubster now.

The fact that this is in the Mail also makes it complete bollocks.

A massive failing of the d***head test for me.
Why would we want some smug 100k/w **** to stink up the dressing room. At least Kayal etc actually give a f***.

Yes, where I am.

Little football for ?two years, would he even care?

Good player in his time, but is his attitude right?

Or they also have Kante, Barkley, Jorginho, Mount, Kovacic and Loftus-Cheek who also play in his position.....

Newmarket.
If we can take him, paying a small percentage of his salary Frank saves enough to cover the weekly boardroom drinks bill and frees up a squad space.
He might fancy a last chance to show he's a top midfielder at a decent club.
Worth a punt,I'll go pick him up and drive him here myself because, let's be honest, someone's going to have to.
