fairly damning on the mans character in my opinion , considering the woke , inclusivity mantra the Premier League is pushing and the way in which our club have embraced it , to leave the Amex for a club run by a representative of an overtly sexist , restrictive, murderous regime ( it's what he is no matter what you dress him up as) makes it all about money ....if he wants to go then get rid now , **** him.

could understand it if we weren't on the way up.

i think the general consensus is **** newcassel too.

Agree, that applies also to any players we see migrating to 'the sun' in the NE, who might previously have contributed to lecturing us normal folk on social or political issues..... hypocrisy.

Gut feeling?

The longer this drags on the more likely or less likely that Ashworth is taking the job?

I’d say more likely

What are you on about? That would be ludicrous.

No it's not. Many of my contracts have had a clause stating that if I left I couldn't poach staff. If I did they could have sued me for the cost of replacing said poached staff and any other losses. Obviously the clause was time limited.

There seems to be a lot of comments on DA's character based on very little evidence that he's actually leaving.

If he is leaving, then I suspect it would have more to do with the potential of winning trophies and building a world class team.

Can anyone post a link to the article?

I initially thought the same but you are effectively suggesting that a clause in Ashworth’s contract applies to the hierarchy at Newcastle FC. There is nothing to stop them trying to poach Albion players and staff as long as the correct procedures are adhered to, unless they agree to a clause as a club on signing Ashworth that they won’t do it? Ashworth could distance himself and deny any involvement in a Newcastle bid for an Albion player if such a clause is in his contract only, surely?

I agree with you to an extent - football is also a slightly different beast. I guess that just as long as DA hasn't recommended the player ( although how to prove that would be difficult ) then Saudi FC can bid for any player they like .... Tony can just tell them to eff off.

Easy to say when I know myself.

I just couldn't live with myself if I worked for them.

I wouldn't even need time to think about it.

It's not just money is it? He would be given unlimited funds to try and build a world class team and work with some of the best and exciting players, in addition to growing their infrastructure. Okay it is blood money but I think you would have to be dead inside not to get a little bit excited about that. It's like every Football Manager players wet dream.

Money is NOT The be all and end all.

Absolutely correct. Would I murder a bunch of innocent people with my own hands face to face? No I wouldn’t.

Would I work a few thousand miles away at a very different business doing an office/sales job that in itself hurts nobody? For a billion a year? Yes.

What are you on about? That would be ludicrous.

It is quite common - it's called a restrictive covenant. I have one in my contract which restricts me from poaching suppliers (my company represents non-UK producers on an exclusive basis) or selling similar goods to the company's existing customers for two years. Usually companies would only sue in the most egregious cases particularly as these agreements are fairly shaky legally however, I am also a shareholder and part of the shareholder's agreement means that if I break the covenant, my shares will revert to the company and I will get nothing.

This is probably not strictly legal but to test that I would need to go to court which would be expensive and so the agreement has weight whether legal or not.

Why did I sign it? I don't want any other senior employee poaching customers or suppliers.

The thing that worries me is when I look at Dan Ashworth on twitter, I see a lot of West Brom fans say they started going downhill when he left them. If he goes then he is going to be hard to replace. As for questioning his character if he goes to Newcastle, the trouble with that is your ignoring the fact he is going to Newcastle and not Saudi United or whatever people are calling them nowdays. Although I think the Brighton project is more ambitious (as we are doing it without throwing all the money in the world at it) and suited for his skill-set, I can see why he has a decision to make.

I think that had more to do with the owners although he will be hugely missed, I think TB will have another lined up

That is what I am hoping. Sadly something tells me it won't be easy. I'm 60/40 in the believe that he will go so I still have hope until anything is announced, which I think will be soon after Monday.

Yeah this.

He was an acquaintance of mine, when he was a teacher in Orpington.
He was a decent enough fella then, I'm sure he sttll is.

He has an opportunity to join one of the country's biggest clubs, with an unlimited budget, to build the best team in the world.
That's the offer. As a football man, that is extremely tempting prospect..

The Premier League had the opportunity to block the Saudi take-over.
Not sure why people think DA should be moralising about the ownership.

These aren't the players you're looking for.

As always, I think the club are totally prepared to handle Ashworth's potential departure without missing a step.

David Weir is lined up to take on the top job and looking at his CV it is very impressive. His experience and qualifications appear to make him an ideal successor. He also has a masters in Sports Directorship.

Once again faultless succession planning demonstrates just how well run our club is.

Exactly. Any moral argument about the Saudis should have stopped when they managed to buy the club ( in terms of them being involved with football, as humanbeing they are the lowest of the low and should be no debate) Its all about football now.

As it happens, so far, they seem to be more like Everton at the moment rather than Man City but it is still early days.

How arrogant - so you can CATAGORICALLY SAY ON OATH that if someone came to poach you offering you 100% pay rise and perks to do EXACTLY THE SAME JOB you are so loyal to your current employer you would say no????

How dare you call me arrogant ! Yes I can categorically answer yes. You don’t know me so don’t make assumptions; idiotic post by you

I disagree with this.

Just because for instance Chelsea's ownership or man city's is established, does not mean I have to or anyone else has to, ignore previous opposition. I still object to oligarchs and states owning football clubs for both the sportswashing and distortion they cause in the beautiful game.
