PArt of initial T and C and if I wanted the severance package when leaving it was signed at the start of employment, made no difference to me as I went overseas on a contract.

There you go…..Ashworth won’t be getting a severance package, if he’s leaving, he’s resigning. Different circumstances.

Since footballers are contractors, I'd be surprised where such clauses even apply. They are a "thing though".

I know they exist in the legal industry where a company doesn't to lose a whole department to a competitor, taking all the business with them. For the same reason they are also important to any form of sales.

The staff will move eventually, but it gives the company a bit of time to deal with the shock and work out a strategy not to lose their clients either.

As I said before, if he wants to work for that scum and take the enormous salary then he can **** off. Otherwise, he is a man of integrity and I hope he stays
How arrogant - so you can CATAGORICALLY SAY ON OATH that if someone came to poach you offering you 100% pay rise and perks to do EXACTLY THE SAME JOB you are so loyal to your current employer you would say no????

Could technically be due a performance bonus though, just thought I'd throw that in to a completely hypothetical discussion about a contract we aren't privy to.

People have all the morales in the world until it comes down to them getting the offer of some serious dough.

Mark Douglas of the Independent reckons Ashworth has agreed to join them …

I'm sure he is leaving. It doesn't take months to decide on a new job. If he was staying, we'd have announced it. I suspect all parties are waiting for end of transfer window/season or some other mutually agreed time for him exit.

I'd say NO.

Even a billion pound a year salary wouldn't tempt me to work for the regime in Newcastle.

Alternatively, key employees with access to sensitive information, often aren’t allowed to hang around once their departure is pending.

Like waiting for a Deputy to be appointed and gradually turn everything over to him.

If he leaves then we can all be free to say, "what a plum. Where is the striker? FFS? What a waste of time and money. Newcastle are...." but let's not jump the gun, eh?

Brighton factually.....
Very easy to say when you are only talking hypothetically.

Agreed, however I’m in position in life where I’m comfortable, I’m not Dan “comfortable” but I’m happy.
If the same opportunity (job) was offered to me for doing the same job, from dubious moral and social backgrounds, I’m certain, 100% I’d turn them down, the argument about money for the future, does not carry weight for some people.

So he has a valid point, hypothetically speaking.

Money is NOT The be all and end all.
