However the article says 'Sources at Brighton think' rather than 'Sources at Newcastle'. Which is strange, considering that Mark Douglas is the 'Northern Football Correspondent' for the i.

Makes me wonder if this source is just Paul Barber at the Fans Forum confirming we'd let him talk to Newcastle.

If thats correct I hope TB has a clause with Ashworth to say he cant poach our players/staff for x years.

Difficult to enforce (has to be very specifically written) even would only reasonably last months rather than years.

It protects business from losing their entire departments over night.

Tony could just refuse to sell a player anyway.

I hope Potter has more integrity than to follow Ashworth if he goes.

Disappointed in Ashworth if this is true.

Why?? When I left a previous job I had to sign a disclaimer to not work for direct competitors or divulge any information from said company for 12 months.

Unless you were an executive director or received a big pay off - that would never be enforced in a court

What actual impact would Ashworth not approaching Brighton for players actually have on Newcastle approaching Brighton for players? This is already governed by various FA and UEFA rules anyway.

No, there are enforceable if reasonable. However the courts wouldn't usually get involved if the period was over 6 months.

So they are little more than "gardening leave plus".

If Tony says no, it's irrelevant. If he doesn't want to sell for the price offered that's it

Exactly. They are very relevant still.

Set in a reasonable geographical sphere too, helps their enforceability.
