Have you ever used the internet at work for non work stuff during work time? That was question 1 of the 2 questions BTW.

If so, then I assume you’d be sacked, as I would think that would be against official company proactice after all, you’re paid to work and not surf the internet surely.

Of course, everyone does, and no one gets sacked.

I expect if i spent several hours a day on the internet at work though, for non work stuff then I would get the sack, or reprimanded. If I looked at porn at work once I would expect to get at least reprimanded.

Damian Green has spent several hours a day on the internet at work looking at porn, whilst you and I have been paying for him to do so, and he has then lied about it.

I guess you are one of those who think this is acceptable behaviour?

Good point, I can't recall a single MP who has been specifically sacked from their job as MP although plenty of MPs have resigned by taking the Chiltern Hundreds.

I haven’t see anything which says he spent several hours per day looking at porn. All I know is that was porn found which he has denied (lied about IMO). The amount of time has not been discussed as far as I’m aware, nor has the elapsed timescale.

The point I’m trying to make is, is it the use of the internet for no-work stuff which you object to, or the fact that he’s looked at porn?
If I assume that you have done both (I accept that you haven’t done the porn at work), but all you are objecting to is him doing something at work which you haven’t done. It’s not that he hasn’t been working (as you admit that you do that too), but what he’s looked at when he’s been on the internet.

Also, as MPs can ‘work’ long days as they are away from home, how do we know this activity was not done in ‘non working’ time?

There’s too much assumption going on here based on something from 10 years ago and leaked by a detective. With respect, how will that detective know the activity logs for Greens activity on his computer unless he’s an IT expert. Did he analyse the internet activity based on the IP address? I very much doubt it.

I just feel there’s much more important things top worry about than if a guy has looked at porn on his computer. I just find the hypocrisy of people astounding.

It was meant to be a PC which was on Damien Green's desk in his Commons office, the computer was logged in in his name and the pictures were viewed/downloaded over several hours and at the same time he was sending and receiving and viewing e-mails on his personal account through that same PC.

Great excuse to hate him and get him sacked. Especially if you called the Police in to do the job because you’re in Opposition. Oh and if any of it’s even remotely true. Still, burn him, don’t worry about the legality of it. Adult watching porn on business computer. That puts him in a minority of, what, say 1billion others worldwide? Yep. Burn him. The thing is I think it is accepted that tons of porn was on his computer, he just says it wasn't him who accessed it, but this detective has come out and said it was accessed whilst he was logged on and using his computer to do actual work?

I think it is impossible to " Sack " an MP otherwise that could be regarded as un democratic and it would undermine the House of Commons completely. I think mostly they realise that if they have done wrong they either resign as a Minister or resign as an MP depending on the severity of the issue. I think that Green is an old school Tory and I think that if the furore around him does not abate in a few days , he will resign to save the government from further embarrassment.

It isn't acceptable at all in the workplace. We had a major blitz on this where I work some years ago, triggered by a single incident, which led to 11 people being dismissed for gross misconduct. As part of this the activity of an external contractor on our network led to police involvement and subsequent conviction. Since then we have released a much tighter policy on internet use at work and I am not aware of a problem since. We have better filtering software now in staff and public areas and if a site is blocked people can apply to have access which involves me and 4 others viewing and assessing the site and making a decision. So, technically, looking at porn is part of my job profile except that it is usually just legit sites that have been wrongly blocked.

In the latest wave of allegations against Mr Green, former detective Neil Lewis disclosed his notes from the raid and claimed that on some days porn was browsed and open on the computer for hours.

'In between browsing pornography, he was sending emails from his account, his personal account, reading documents... it was ridiculous to suggest anybody else could have done it'.

I always read articles about sleaze on the Mail website! This does suggest he was browsing porn, whilst supposedly working. Also I am not sure how my work would feel if I stayed past the end of work for a few hours using the company IT infrastructure to browse for this kind of extracurricular stuff.

The issue I have is with the substantial amount of porn he was 'consuming' when at work, not working, paid for by me which he has then publicly lied about. There should be some penalty for doing so; whether or not that is his sacking I don't know, but something appropriate.

I read the whole reply, you said he should be fully investigated by the police in case any of the porn he's looked at is illegal. Why? It sounds to me like you suspect anybody who looks at porn to be looking at illegal porn and should be investigated.
