Just chuckling at Charlton
It sums up what is wrong with English football to be honest, tin pot rags slating a small provincial club for daring to compete with the "big boys" in the most overpaid, hyped-up league in the world where the only thing that counts is how much money the club is worth and how much they pay their greedy, egotistical mercenaries who kiss the badge when they score, but deep down are pissing themselves laughing at the poor sods who fork out £50 a game to fill their wage packet each week.

The thing that Chelsea "fan" Holt forgets is before his Russian Billionaire came to the party his club would have had about as much chance of winning the Premiership title as Reading. Under achieving for the best part of 30 years and up until the Ruski crook came in to splash his crooked money at them still used to organise 1970 Cup Final reunions every 5 minutes to celebrate their only real achievement except their Title win in 1955.

And it just shows the bloke's ignorance when he can't slate Steve Coppell for his management skills, so he has a pop at him not talking to gutter journalists like himself! Who has got it right Oliver?

He would be, if he had done that. But he didn't. He paid for the ground himself (I'm not even sure he was on the board himself at the time) and the club's directors at the time insisted the stadium was named after him.

To be honest, if Norman Cook (or whoever) stumps up £20m of his own money for a stadium in the town as a way of giving back much to a community that helped him become a millionaire, I'd have no problems naming the stadium after him.

So that really is piss poor journalism - he hasn't even bothered researching a fact as critical as that. But then The Mirror has been a crappy nothing paper for years now, which is a shame really.

Oh, please. How difficult would it have been for him to say "No, I don't want to name the stadium after myself?"

What would the club's directors have said..... "Well, thank you very much for paying single-handedly for the stadium but if you aren't willing to name it after yourself then I'm afraid we're gonna have to scrap the whole project, knock down the stadium, and you can take your money and f*ck off elsewhere."
