Kimmage is an odd one - I'm entirely on his side, but he simply can't pick his battles properly. He holds grudges against pretty much everyone he's ever spoken to and loses a lot of support by doing so.

Essentially he's right, just in the worst way possible, and it makes him come across as bitter (which he has every right to be, but does his cause no favours).

232km race and they finally go live to it with 42km to go and we missed the first go over the final climbs too Now there's groups all over the road and I haven't a clue what's going on

Good what what was shown on TV but surely they must show the initial selections being made as they go over Jaizkibel and Arkale the first time around. I'd imagine the whole race would be worth a watch too for the scenery.

Anyway, good to see Gallopin hold off the Valverde group for the win. No one willing to drag AVV to the line and it seems he's content as ever for the 2nd place from a select group and the World Tour points Quintana must be delighted after all the work he apparently put in early on to deliver him there in the first place

Nice to see young Jungels in the mix again. Can only see a top 12 so far but hoping he hung on to finish inside the top 20. I think he could be a real future talent.

One of the countless considered for the lottery I suppose.

I was cheering on my two youngsters, Landa & Jungels, but both dropped away in the end.

Edit: Only BMC could have Gilbert and GVA as joint team leaders here and still get none of them in the final selection. What an odd team they are.

I had galloping all over the tour and probably a bit before too, but not today.

Roche was looked at, but not today.

I think I had most of the Quintana group nil points for Team Stat.

Surprised to see Niemiec starting Tour of Poland. After an excellent Giro he looked spent in TdF. Thought he'd have a bit of a rest up rather than ride this, but perhaps he's compelled to put in an appearance at his home race. Be interesting to see what these Polish teams do as Poland have produced some decent riders of late. Marczynski riding this for Vacansoleil too I see

yesterday I was chewing over the fat on the recent tour de France with my father-in -law

as usual the conversation ended up being about the french riders,past & present

I asked him who was the most popular french rider of all time?

it wasn't Anquetil,Thévenet,Hinault or even Fignon?

so who was this mystery rider?

even my wife chips in,you don't know "poupou"!

much to my embarrasment,it seems it's not only the british that like a loser

There's no such thing as a cycling-related O/T in Geeks! I'm not even convinced there IS a topic...

EVERYONE loves Poupou - the eternal second. The French are odd though, Richard Virenque is still held in quite high esteem despite Festina. Maybe they're just being sensible and acknowledging that it happened and was 'of the time'?

Anquetil, Thévenet, Hinault & even Fignon all had decisive faults.
Whether that be 'odd' personal relationships, killing the spectacle, being a head case, and being too French even for the French.

To my knowledge, which is pretty sketchy about Poulidor, although he was a perennial Tour second he is a very decent chap.

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to admit this on here, but in September I'm signed up for a sprint triathlon. I currently have SPD-SL pedals on my road bike and over the last couple of days I've started to wonder about the transitions, I haven't really got a clue what the transition area/layout will be like, but I'm a bit concerned about having to run in my road shoes with the SPD-SL cleats from where I collect the bike until I can mount it (and vice versa for the second transition). I do have some SPD pedals and some mountain bike shoes where the SPD cleats are sunk into the sole, which would be easier to run in.

I was wondering if anyone had any advice or recommendations?

In other news, I think I experienced the onset of my first bonk today. Fortunately I was just approaching a large village and was able to stop there and refuel in a Co-op. It was a really unpleasant experience, my head was all over the place, when I saw the village I was filled with joy, but I soon started to panic again was I was really disorientated and didn't know where the shop was. Not fun!
