This London bike ride went through my town. Disrupted traffic, trains, shops, and the buses. pain in the arse.

The whole 2-day thing went through my town. It was great. I went to watch it and had a lovely time.

As much as I understand this a generational thing, plus the money and time needed to capitalise on the resurgence of cycling.
I hope all this interest is channeled into effective policies, schemes and the cycling environment.

3-5 mile car journeys should be eradicated because you'd be an idiot to make it, not because you can't afford the petrol, or it's not safe, or you're not fit enough.

This will be great on so many levels if it happens: http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/2014-launch-for-womens-tour-of-britain

Equal prize money with the men at last.
More road closures here in the South East.
Some more days out with the kids on the train for me hopefully.
Terrestrial tv coverage.

What's not to like?

What's not to like indeed. I just read the link; seeing the words Laura Trott and Wiggle in the same sentence is enough for me. Although I understand Wiggle is her sponsor?

It is good news. Britain must be better placed to popularise women's cycling than most - no pre-existing prejudices (France, Spain, Italy) and some of our most famous cyclists are already women (Pendleton, Trott).

Gawd bless jnr stat.

He's 'needed' a cycling jersey for ages and I finally got round to sorting him out last night.
I gave him the option of a plain red Altura child specific jersey that would properly fit.

Or, knowing at XS it was going to be too big, did he want a gamble on some flair, and hope it just fits enough.

He chose the flair.

As it was from Prendas the jersey arrived next day (this morning), and it's the dogs.
A cracking bit of kit, exceptional quality, the Santini fabric feels very nice, and it almost fits, all for £20, happy days.

Evening all. Thought I might update you all on my new bike progress (though there was no reaction to my new frame!)

Frame is getting athena 11 and some fulcrum racing quattro wheels - pics to follow.

I've also switched over to Speedplay pedals. Absolutely brilliant! Double sided so really easy to get in. Release mechanism is straightforward and the adjustable float (the reason for changing) is great as I have persistent issues with my right knee since I tore my acl.

So, following Phinney's amazing stage win in Poland last week, BMC have suddenly come over all exciting to watch I notice.

Look forward to seeing it progress. Interesting to hear about your positive speedplay experience as I was asking about them before you may remember as I'm curious.

Thanks stat. I now feel loved and appreciated again!

Have decided to go ahead with the sportive (new forest one in October). Despite the imminent arrival of mini-IL no. 2 this weekend I'm hoping to get enough riding in to manage the 60 odd mile version (rather than the 100)!

It looks a lovely route, I'm half tempted myself, although might go for the South Down one at the end of October. Not that I'm getting addicted to sportives or anything.....

Great, it should be fun.

I've just signed myself and Jnr up for the Evans ride it event at Plumpton a week on Sunday.

I did the 80 (I think) mile course a couple of years ago, but I'm going easy on him and he's starting with the 15 miler 'fun route'.

If IL Jnr isn't strapped to your back wearing this, you should be ashamed of yourself:-

Well done Stat Brother, will be worn on cycle ride to Amex tomorrow, great timing!!

I've been like a cat on a hot tin roof waiting for someone to be in.
What do you think?.
I'm a little to involved to be objective.

I like them, I can see the on-screen blue was probably a bit different from the blue on the material, but I can live with that.

Not bad quality at all though, logo has come out well, as a bit of fun, really pleased, well done!
