RIDE LONDON 100

Completed today, clocked myself at 5hr 11mins inc. my one stop for food + drinks halfway.

Other than it being a logistical nightmare - registering the day before, early start time etc. the event was brilliant.

Joined up in some proper large peloton's on closed roads, sailing through London which belonged solely to those on 2 wheels.

I latched onto some quality cycle club groups, friendly chats around the course - it was pretty special.

Would I do it again? Maybe in 5 yrs or something. Would I recommend it? YES, as a one off enjoying car free roads, no traffic signals, proper group riding it was brilliant. The crowds cheering all round was also such a buzz, especially entering Trafalgar Square & the Mall.

Also managed to raise a good few pennies for the REMF.

Good work bold, that's a great time.
I was watching on TV and thought how great it would be to ride through London on closed roads (especially after years of tackling the London commute!).

Great stuff, I bet it was so much fun on the roads, well done.

It took everyone a long while before we all realised we could go on either side of the road! Even then there was a tendency to stay left.

It's definitely something worth trying to do whether you spin round in 8 hrs or go hammer & tongs at it.

Oh, and I was pretty pleased with my time - so thank you!

I'm going to voice an opinion I've had for too long, but have been scared to face it.

I don't like David Millar the rider.
It's all a bit to theatrical, for my liking.
Nobody is more tired than DM at the end of a race.
Nobody can be in a break as attacking as DM.
It doesn't seem heart on sleeve stuff, as said it seems more than that, so OTT.

I'm still holding out hope for DM the man, the speaker, the politician, the writer, all of whom I like.
Just ease up on the RADA show reel Dave.

At least you know he's been in the race. Did Sagan turn up yesterday? Is Goss still riding at all? Millar's an attacking rider - not great going uphill but in a straight line he'll always have a go. He goes a great job for the team, and wins the odd race by not being afraid to lose. Something I quite admire. Yesterday, however, wal ALL about FDJ, and a brilliant, well-deserved win for the best team in London on the day.

I'm not disputing any of that, my point is 'by christ don't we know it'!!

This London bike ride went through my town. Disrupted traffic, trains, shops, and the buses. pain in the arse.

Can I correct you on a point of detail, it wasn't a single 'bike ride' it was 4 separate events.

'Freecycle' was a closed road event on Saturday around closed roads of London for families, kids etc.
'Grand Prix' women's race on Saturday on a loop around Green Park on closed roads.
'RideLondon100' a 20,000 participant road sportive around London and Surrey.
'LondonSurreyClassic' professional cycle race to try to establish a big annual race in the UK

The size of the crowds in various towns, villages, country lanes etc. would suggest not everyone shared your view!

Yep, what with this AND Pride, everyday normal life has been thrown into maelstrom of confusion. Nobody should EVER have to suffer this sort of disruption. Ban EVERYTHING.

Holy cow! Did it? Jeez, now I know that I'm dead against it.

Bring back the traffic, trains, shops and buses I say. They sound much more exciting and will be sure to bring in extra business just on their own.
