I spent the first few miles with painful hands. I think I'm molded into drops now.

I want to do the Cantti Way and can get a train direct. I don't think there's much MTB action on my manor; even that river route had load of frustrating stop points and there's only so often you can go the same route.

Stat will want to look away now, but I've done a lot of cycling in Kent and I absolutely love it over there. Even sticking to all road, there's loads of lovely quiet country lanes to explore, and most of it is pretty much on my doorstep.

If you're into off roading too, and staring into the middle distance pointing, that Cuntti Way looks anything but.

What a tit I am; its the Cantii Way...
1066familyman, I think our all nighter this coming 'shortest night' will be fully in Kent. Likely to be as flat as possible.

If I do make another purchase, it will be gravel, sorry Pogue Mahone, because I cant see myself using an MTB enough to justify it.

Only a pair of Strat complimenting shades for £6.49

It'll be rude not too.

Funnily enough - I went on there for the first time in ages on Friday. Couldnt leave the Carnac Croix helmet with built in LED light...for £8.50!

Dont need a new helmet, & wasnt going to get one, but its just like being at a Lidl sometimes when you pop on their site...

You are shitting me.

My last bugbear re The Strat was the chain guard holder behind the crank.
Naturally the cotter pin was ceased in, so I left the nut off the pin and have waited for the inevitable.

Well during this morning's jaunt for breakfast it all loosened up and I can finally get to the holder.

Aarrrgggghhhhhh - any advise on getting that off, when your biggest spanner is far to big and your second biggest is about 1 mm too small.

Did you manage to get it sorted or do I need to send Pat Mustard round?

I'll not be having Pat put his massive tool in my box.

Not sorted yet, I figured I might as well put new cotter pins in, so will try again later in the week.

I think I'm just going to have to hand file down the inside of pictured spanner, which will be a shame as that's the size of everything else on the bike.

I was hoping there'd be a quick fix involving elastic bands and fairy liquid!!

Seems a shame to ruin a good spanner if it fits other things. Lidl have got a random selection of hand tools for £2.99 each available soon, including slip joint pliers and a large adjustable, that should do the job.

I discussed budget gravels in my new LBS today. I was advised to go for hydraulic brakes if possible. That not far off doubles the cost. I'll leave it for now.

Am I missing something?

Surely a large adjustable spanner does the job? They aren't hard to source or expensive to buy either.

If so. Notice anything curious about the commentary???

No you're not, I'm just loathed to buy a 'one use' tool - well one use anything really.

Surely an adjustable spanner is the very definition of a multi tool... Sort of

And shall we book Sir in for the hydraulic disc brake service whilst we're at it?

I have friends who have mechanical discs and they are more than happy with them....and I've read more than a few magazine reviews that say they work well enough if hydraulics arent in the budget. A lot easier to sort out at home as well, so I wouldn't be swayed too much by the hydraulic argument tbh.

Im seriously considering an e-Gravel for my next bike (probably a 50th birthday present to myself) but they are way out of my budget at the moment. So Im seriously tempted to have a look at one of these for the time being, just so I can get my long planned over-nighter sorted out...
