So basically we don't have any invester lined up. We have a promise of a mortgage letter? A bit like I had to get before I could buy my house. got cha.
Yep.

Personally, I am much happier with the prospect of the Club's finances being tied up in long-term loans from major financial institutions than us relying on borrowing money from multi-millionnaire individuals like Bill Archer or Roman Abramovich.

You obviously don't rate our squad much. I reckon we could clear £1.2m if we sold EVERY player. Plus some second hand furniture from the office...

No, I do rate our squad, you misunderstand my argument.

The value of intangible assets in something as volatile as a football transfer market is not something you can make sound judgments on. A player can go out tomorrow and get injured and be worth nothing.

Take a player like Harding, perhaps along with Leon, our most valuable intangible asset. How can you put a value on him? Many on NSC think he is worthless. We have some anecdotal evidence evidence that other clubs are prepared to put a value on him. But that value could drop a lot if his fee goes to a tribunal at the end of this season.

Banks won't make loans on that kind of volatile security.

So am I!! I'm just amazed the a reputable bank has agreed to lend us the money!!

Will this need to be revisited to take into account the inflation etc?

Have you ever tried getting a good price for second hand office furniture and computer equipment. I bet a fair bit of it is leased anyway.

Some banks will. A few years ago football clubs did start to put their payers on the balance sheet and borrow against it. I'm sure that I heard that part of Leeds problems were that they effectively mortgaged up to the full value of their players, and the the transfer fee bubble burst.

Hinsh to take Dannys place then? Sounds good to me, Virgo to go back to CB alongside him when Butters stops cooking, Reid or El-Edb at RB with Harding/Watto/Mayo battling for LB. Sounds alright to me....just!

This, I think, is the best response to the possibility of DC going.

Of course we will all be gutted.

But I think the club has moved on a lot in the last year and we now have some depth in the team as regards defence.

When we lost DC for a few games last April, we didn't cope well, culminating in that shocker in Blackpool.

But I was surprised how well we did without him when DC had his recent op.

We got the Leeds win and came close but for late goals against Sheff Utd and Cardiff.

When DC came back into the team, we conceded 8 in the next 3. That's not to blame DC for that, just that he no magic charm these days.

We are playing 5-3-2 because Hinsh is undroppable. Now he will have to step up in a 4-4-2 and be the main man alongside Guy. It is a better investment to spend money on keeping Hinsh than keeping DC.

It would be better if we kept DC too, obviously. But as with Currie, it is better we get some money for him now than see him walk off for nothing at the end of the season to someone like Peter Taylor who doesn't want to give us cash.

DC going is not the end of the world we do have players to cover defensively....it scoring goals that is the problem

So... the back 5 might be:

Reid/Hinsh/Butters/Virgo (or Mayo if Virgo is up front)/Harding

Not THAT bad I suppose. We'd still have El-Abd in reserve as well.

Because of the people who have posted on this thread.

I know two of them personally and know they don't spread rumours for the sake of it.

There are some people who can be believed and others who are wind up merchants.

Do some crude sums.

£50 million loan, repayable over 40 years @ 6 per cent:-

Annual repayment = £3.3 million

This is £132,000 per game, assuming 25 games per season - or the revenue from the first 6,600 tickets sold for each game (assuming an average ticket price of £20).

We are budgeting on getting crowds of 14,000 at Withdean. That means that the income from the next 7,400 tickets can be spent on running the football club (ie £148,000 a game; £7.7 million a year.

If we sell 22,000 tickets, that's a bonus of £160,000 every time we do so - something to spend on team strengthening.

To say nothing of other marketing initiatives.

I know these are very rough and ready figures. The Club's Business Plan is presumably more detailed. And there will be other sorts of income - shares, grants, etc, that will reduce the scale of borrowing needed. And obviously there could be a mixed portfolio of loans, with varying repayment periods. But you get my drift... This is not an idiotic project that a bank with an eye for a long-term return would automatically chuck out.

Sorry to join in late on the debate. Late finish at work.

Heard on SCR that Danny's in talks with Sheffield United. I would be gutted to see him go, but as others have said if it's matter of losing him at the end of the season on a free or taking £250k now, we'll have to take the money. No debate.

What does worry me though is what our overall situation is having on everyone. Many people in my office have already said they won't renew season tickets for next year citing a lack of any form of entertainment at the moment - I know it sounds fairweather for people to be saying this half way through the season, but it's essential to do all we can to keep these people buying their season tickets.

If we do go down due to essential asset stripping how many will renew next year - I fear that numbers will drop, and we will be further down that slippery slope than we are now.

I accept that some people are saying sales such as Currie and possibly Cullip are vital to keep the club going, but even if we get the Falmer decision next year is that really going to free up lots of cash ? I for one don't have any idea where the funding is likely to come from, other than the usual 'lottery grant' applications being mentioned.

Best wishes to Danny if he does go. It's going to be a long hard winter I fear.

Am I the only one on here that thinks we should give Dick a bit of credit for being such a good wheeler dealer when it comes to getting great deal on players we sell on and managers we have got over the years he has been at the helm. Currie for £250K was terrific business, Cullip for anything over the same amount would again be great business. We have a terrific youth set up at the moment which Dick has worked hard to keep in place and invest in, and my God is it bearing fruits this season. El Abd, Virgs, Harding (bring it on, hes not that bad), Robinson, Hinsh and Hammond to name those that have established themselves this eason. Thats why I reckon Mcghee will stay on as manager. We are in a shaky situation at the moment and we have to strick together as fans. 95% of people would have to agree we overachieved last season and we should be glad we have at least this season to go to great ground and see great players.
