If you are looking for a club playing decent standard cricket throughout the summer, please follow this link.

Lewes St. Michaels Cricket Club - Cricket clubs in Lewes, Lewes Cricket, East Sussex Cricket

We are a friendly bunch, known to quaff many ales after the games at the Swan Inn in Lewes and we have three teams of varying standard playing in the East Sussex League as well as many junior sides.

So if you are looking for a club for serious cricket or just want a friendly type of game on a Sunday, ring Phil on the number on the web site and come along!

There is still nets if anyone is interested.

Cheers

I played a couple of games at JUNIOR school and never since. Enjoy the occasional nets with mates but never got into playing.

Would like to start but, despite clearly being able to at the very least field better than most of the old codgers my mates play with, always worried cricket is a bit too cliquey.

We need a terrible NSC Invitation Team...

Cricket is MASSIVELY not cliquey, Richie. Take up Dave's invite - I'm sure you'll be welcomed with open arms [in an entirely NOT GAY way, you understand].

Sometimes I feel like playing for the vets. I play for the 2's. Very happy with that, get a bat at #4 and first change for 15 overs of canny spin to tie up one end...get asked to play for the 1sts, but batting number 8 and getting 5 overs is not my idea of £6 well spent!

Unfortunately Hadlee has already been headhunted by Portslade, due to the fact Hadlee Junior 1 has been signed on for their U11

I used to hate playing against Porslade many yerars ago. I think they were in the Sussex Championship then and had a couple of absolute arsholes playing for them. In fact the whole experience was just dreadful...a bit like playing against the old Shoreham team.

Do you remember playing against St Francis Hospital......I was batting and one of teh patients decided to walk across the pitch and pull up the stumps. One of our players yelled out....." Oi f*** Off looney".....to be reprimanded by what we took to be the matron and we were told afterwards that we should just ignore them......really easy like!!!

Their team was mostly Indians and Pakinstanies who could all turn the ball a foot and batted like Tendulkar on speed!

St Francis Hospital was my first ever game for club (Prestonville) back in the late 60's. Played there again a few years later and one of the patients walked on the pitch during the tea interval, had a piss up the stumps and then just walked off.

Not Luton! Thank God
I'll be making a few appearance for Seaford 3rd or 4th X1's this year. Remember playing against Haywards Heath a few years back and getting bowled by an ex Brighton goalkeeper. Can't remember his name!

Seaford took a couple of old Newhaven players a season or two back. I used to play at Brighton and Hove with Bob Sennick, who played for seaford for a few years.

Played there many times, only really enjoyed it back end of the summer as May and June used to be bloody freezing cold!!!! Once got 135 not out there in a cup game back in the early 80's......ah them were the days when I could see the ball:cool:

I always hated playing at Seaford and Newhaven, although I did have the pleasure of dismissing the obnoxious Ray Wells in a 1st XI game down there when I was about 16. He called me a 'LITTLE C*NT' as he sulked off. The pavilion's THAT way Ray.

Ray Wells...a name from my past.

When I played for Kemp Town many moons ago, we played Newhaven in the Brighton League Div 1. There were no real rules on who could or could not play so when our Sri lankan number 5 asked if his cousin could play, we were short so we said OK. Turns out he was a student who went on to play for the test side......we went into bat, got 294 for 2, he hit 150odd and then we bowled them out for 70 odd with him taking 6 for 17 and at one point there was only him in front of the batsman, I was at first slip about 40 yards back!

Wells wrote to LORDS to complain about our total lack of respect for the spirit of the game and threatened to have the league suspended. My how we all chuckled in the league commitee meeting following.

Happy days

Playing against them a few years ago when Haywards Heath entered a team in the Mid Sussex League, they made 320-2 with a couple of Sri Lankans doing serious damage to my bowling average. We were about 120-9 in reply when the heavens opened.
