Genuine question:

Has Cox ever played down the middle, behind the 2 strikers, as a playmaker?

If so, how has this experiment gone?

The lack of quality of delivery from Cox really does drive me mad. There are just so many times when it's not just poor it's woeful in teh lack of elevation he gets on the ball.

I still part blame him for us losing yesterday. The first half was so boring, our first real chance of an attack to get the players up for the game, the crowd behind them cam with a free kick for us about 30 yards out by the South Stand.

But Cox hits the ball at the first defenders feet, it is cleared and we dont get a chance til Owusu's header

Every little bit of momentum we need now, we had one on a plate and just threw it away with one piss poor kick

He's best of a poor midfield bunch in some respects though. Jarrett was woeful last night and along with El Abd (until the re-jig) I still think our centre midfield really lacks any sort of commanding presence. We need a Richie Carpenter.

Seemed to start in the middle last night. I thought it was one of his worst games, TBH, but it's not been a vintage season, has it.

Wilkins got something out of Cox but Adams got nothing. The jury's out but I'd be unhappy if we got rid of him before a decent manager had evaluated him first.

His best position is not wide left or right, where he tends to get lost, but in the hole behind the strikers. Unfortunately for him, we haven't had a Hammond or a Carpenter behind him.

Like near the end when Carole over-hit two successive corners. Or when we were piling forward for a winner and Whing dropped a free-kick in just about the only place in their penalty box we didn't have anyone?

People annoy me about Cox. Yes, often his delivery is not perfect. But here is an idea. Watch a FULL premiership game. Not the highlights a FULL game. Count how many misplaced passes there are, how many corners and free-kicks - even from the likes of Gerrard et al - do not beat the first man or are over-hit and go straight out.

Then come back and demand that a League 1 winger supplies us with pinpoint service every single time he gets on the ball.

Its the same as the idiots who expect our full backs to be able to switch the play to the other side of the pitch, with their wrong foot, while under pressure.

It is not long ago, that we were thinking that player's like Cox, Robinson, Lynch, Elphick and Hinshelwood could all be sold for a lot of money. I don't think we would get anything like the money we got for Harding for any of them now.
Another feather in Adams cap as far as I am concerned.

..... and shall I also keep a tally of how many crosses hit the first defender in the SHINS?

I am not expecting any of our players to be perfect, thats why we are in League One, we have league One players.

But Cox is so predictable, he will cut inside the full back and then kick straight at the first man 4 times out of 5. It is so frustrating. You can actually say what Cox is going to do 5 seconds before he actually goes and does it.

The only good passes he does is the 60 yard cross field pass to Jake Robinson!

Carole, he has a brilliant cross on him, but cannot cross whilst running at pace.

Birchall took the best free kicks and corners yesterday and he was on the pitch for 10 minutes

He's no good in the middle behind the front two, as he is so lightweight he is brushed off the ball EASILY and simply disappears. He's no good on the wing as his crossing is consistantly ABYSMAL. I have no idea what the f*** he does all week, but it clearly isn't spent on practicing his delivery of the ball.

So I'm at something of a loss as to what we get from Cox these days. He had one decent season a couple of years ago, and like so many other players at the club, has gone backwards since then. There just doesn't seem to be the toughness or the hunger in him to improve himself, but then he's not alone there.

I agree. I have been saying since he joined that if fit Birchall HAS to start right mid. He put in more decent crosses than Carole and Cox put together last night.

Carole? Well the man obviously has talent. But just as Cox is predicatable so is Carole. Beats his man, cuts back inside, then goes back outside again where more often than not he is met by the other team's winger AND full back. Normally his play ends with a ball inside to Jarrett than a telling cross.
