I'm not so sure he is that low in confidence to be honest. He run his socks off tonight coming deep and making runs, but brentford played very defensively throughout the game and fed on scraps or made his own chances such as his turn and shot that the keeper made a good save in the first half.

Second half when Murray came on it was just a different striker and team. He obviously knows Murray well and their partnership is blooming, whereas him and Sandanza just don't have that communication yet. He should've tucked one away in the second half to make it two nil, but several fine saves from their keeper and last ditch tackles by their defence denied him. For a 20 year old he's got bags to offer and definitely has an eye for goal. Enjoyed watching him tonight, pushed El-Abd very close for man of the match. Carry on Barnesy, doing a good job mate.

I'm going to chuck my own THIS into this discussion.

According to the BBC, the Brentford keeper pulled off a string of great saves from Barnes. Most neutral observers believe Barnes had a brilliant game agains Oldham but again found a keeper in great form.

What strikes me is that not only does this boy get into goal scoring position after position, he gets his shots on goal. That's what must be exciting Gus and anyone who knows about football. If he was blazing the wide or over every time I'd be worried. But keep getting them on target and more goals will come (I nearly put "the goals will come" there, but of course he has already scored three).

I'm a Barnes convert. He is our best striker at the moment.

Anyone that thinks Barnes is not up to it is an idiot and either does not go to games or is just a C***. This, i am going THIS my own statement, that is how strong i feel about it.

He is clearly a quality player, if he learns to be more clinical we have our 20+ goal a season man...

He's a young lad, he has time to learn.

Why would anyone want to "slate" one of our young players, still settling into the area, who is getting chances, scoring goals, and playing in a team clear at the top of the division. That is a bizarre state of mind.

I've no doubt that Barnes has something special for a 20 year old and I, for one, am very glad he's in our team. I would not be surprised to see him score 15-20 goals this season but even then there would probably be some people on here rushing to stick the boot in at the first opportunity. That's NSC for you. And what would we do without it?

Perhaps (and I'm as guilty as anyone on this) the original poster is trolling and trying to provoke a reaction. They then come back an hour or two later and masturbate joyfully into a crusty sock whilst reading the replies, for they certainly display the tendencies of grade A wankers.

A few more closed threads and their efforts will sink fast?

Good player, works very hard, would be nice if he could find the goal net rather than the hammer net a bit more often though.

Nah, not trying to provoke a reaction, just interested to hear other peoples' thoughts. He could have (and probably should have) had a hat-trick last night. I sincerely hope Barnes is the 20 goal man we need, i like him.....

oh, and I have never wanked into a crusty sock.

If you are not trying to provoke a reaction, why post with such utter shit then. If you were there last night, what f'kn game were you watching, if you was not there, then wind it in.

some people are just never happy with what they have and look for a negative in every situation. myself, I prefer to look for a positive in every situation - barnesy is improving each time i see him, yes he misses a few - but its league 1 ffs and he is helping maintain our league position.

Shoots off either foot, heads the ball well, is showing rapid improvement in holding the ball up and link play. Works his socks off to get into space either front or back post. Not much there to take exception to, looks a steal at the price and a real prospect.

I also thought Bennett had a terrific game last night and couldn't believe the ground he covered.

However if Brentford are the worst team in this division and we are the best, there are going to be some mighty hard scraps this season, because there is not a huge gulf in class.

Don't think some are giving enough respect to their keeper who made some cracking saves, same at the weekend as well. We will batter a team soon and Barnes will get his fair share
