Oh no! The Barnes lickers are full of their own self importance on the back of things they refuse to see. Gonna be a long season.
:big wave:

Oh yeah let's just wade in and slag off our players when we weren't even there . I'd forgotten how pompous and self important it was to consider fans like that a bit twattish

Difficult to see why the Barnes "goal" was disallowed, the Cordoba fans seemed to think there was a handball. Now Gus has explained that they were trying out the long ball, catching them on the break, it seemed to be quite effective but does require a hold-up player to bring the midfield in. Cordoba had a very good midfield, they passed the ball around a lot and were able to pass it through us through the middle quite effectively. They also closed us down very quickly, were quite physical (despite what they say about us being physical) denying us time on the ball and usually regained possession quite quickly. Their attacks tended to grind to a halt around our box though because we defended well throughout. There's a good description of Barne's chances on the club website but merely by way of observation (not wishing to get embroiled in the "is Barnes any good?" debate!) he should have put at least one of them away. In fairness to him, he did work pretty hard but we were pretty lightweight up front.

The Barnes bashers have really started quite early this season

The back four looked solid but Córdoba got through our midfield regularly without any of our players got a touch, We need to defend better in midfield, the back four won't be able to keep clean sheets on their own.

Strange game. They were arguably the better team for a lot of the match but we could have won 4 or 5 nil.

But a good workout and a good test for us.

Well I've read the thread and I didn't see it like that at all.

The majority if it was just some guy trying to get some realism going by saying you don't have to answer the Barnes slagger offers by saying he is brilliant. He's somewhere in between.

And he got slaughtered for it.

Quite ..and unnecessarily.

I agree, I'd also like to see him positively affect the game between the 1st and 65th min as well a put the usual goal or two in, in the last 25 mins when he appears to decide to try

What a load of bullshit. Have you not noticed the numerous defensive headers he puts in every game? In some ways he's one of our best defensive players.

What stage in their season is it? Are they just starting to play matches as part of their preseason build-up?

this
some of those who go to matches waiting for some superman striker(or goalhanger) should take a day off and listen to the commentary on player once in a while his ((Barnes) top scorer) name come up regularly in defence as did that other useless load of shite (top scorer) Murray.
If the people who do not like him keep it up he will leave not unlike mr Murray did
he cost us virtually nothing and is a work in progress striker good at his job and Gus likes him
and if Gus likes him thats good enough for me

Two of our strikers are injured so the scoreline wasn't surprising. Greer got booked (quite rightly) for grabbing his opponent round the throat when he'd got past him, and dragging him back. That wasn't the 'penalty incident' which was more of a 'she fell over' and not a pen imo.
Cordoba kept possession extremely well and their passing was a very good standard. It was a good workout for our team despite the heat even though it was an 8pm ko. Kuszczak looked comfortable throughout the game and their keeper had more 'saves' to make rather than just gathering in the ball.

Unbelievable that the opinion on Barnes is so split. Ultimately, Gus thinks he is good enough to keep playing him and in different roles too.

Under Poyet the club has made progress on the pitch consistently so stop griping and realise what an amazing few years we have had.

A Promotion, a new home and a whole host of players that I would of never dreamt of seeing in an Albion shirt.

Then I read the stuff on here and it's carnage.

There is a player or two I am not keen on but it's a ying & yang thing for me, it's all balanced out by what has been a superb roller coaster ride since the Bloom/Poyet era began

I like Barnes, he was our top scorer last year and played a lot of the year on the wing or behind the forward, he does anything needed for the team and is one of our most clinical strikers at the club, we should appreciate what he does for the club and not bash him when misses a chance, all players do.

The occasional long ball will be a bonus , the opposition fooled into the tika-taka approach and then dumbfounded by a 60 yard diagonal pass or an "up and under" hoof from our 18 yard box. Despite the draw , some fans are forgetting that CMS and Hosky were out injured so Barnesy had no partner.

The penalty guy was two yards offside before the challenge so a pen would have been harsh anyway
