There wasn't rampant antisemitism in the party. Any more than criticising Israel now for its daily genocide of civilians in Gaza is rampant antisemitism. His broad church presumably including positions of power for McDonald and Wrong-Daily as well as rampant anti-semitism and Momentum attempting to take over candidate lists?
He's damned by his actions however convincing you find his words.
Plenty of people can buy houses or the market would have collapsed. Public services improved incredibly well under Blair (the NHS was FAR better then than it is now) and the sort of progressive EDI policies that Joey Barton hates mean our kids get plenty of choices and should genuinely be considered for a role they're good at even if they are BAME, female, LGBTQ+, first in the family to get a degree or have a neurodiverse diagnosis (put into place by private industry who know they need a range of thoughts and educationists desperate to give disadvantaged kids a chance).Centrism is an ideology I'm afraid. In the past 30 years it's kept all the rightwing shit that Thatcher did to this country in place, which is why no one can buy a house, our public services are a shitheap, our kids grow up with limited choices and the rich get richer at our expense. Starmer will keep all that in place, it won't be any different to the last 40 years. That's what he's promised the Tory newspaper barons
After the complete shitshow that's taken place since 2015 I'd settle for a stable period of good leadership, gravitas and sensible centerism and it's clear the country agrees with me.
The last thing we need is another five years of ideology first, fringe politics driven by the minority wing of a parliamentary party.
Whereas Corbyn couldn't even put a break in it.The problem is in 5 years time we will end up with just that, a rabid right wing populist movement fueled by 'sensible' people in suits 'talking down the working man' stoked up by Patel/Braverman etc.
That is indeed the BIG worry, what will follow the inevitable rapid disillusion with Starmer's record, he doesn't have the late 90s boom that Blair had to do some easy things. The problem is in 5 years time we will end up with just that, a rabid right wing populist movement fueled by 'sensible' people in suits 'talking down the working man' as stoked up by Patel/Braverman etc.

The man of the people lost working class votes across some of the most deprived places in England.
What you are going to get is five years of something like a cross between John Major and David Cameron. Every Labour policy has been dumped by Starmer in his pursuit of Tory swing voters. If that's what you want, then I'm pleased for you. You'll forgive those of us who actually want some policies to address Britain's problems going on and looking for alternatives
Hogging the discussion yet selectively choosing the points you ignore and the ones you answer. That is indeed the BIG worry, what will follow the inevitable rapid disillusion with Starmer's record, he doesn't have the late 90s boom that Blair had to do some easy things.
But anyway I'm hogging the discussion too much here, back to chasing away tickets for my lad
<sigh> What do you suggest? We have discussed this to 15 decimal places, including why individual parties in the UK ordering Israel to stop is pointless. There wasn't rampant antisemitism in the party. Any more than criticising Israel now for its daily genocide of civilians in Gaza is rampant antisemitism.
250 people torn limb from limb by Israeli bombs yesterday. And no one does a single thing about it. What a world
(Starmer last month sacked Labour front benchers who voted for a ceasefire in Parliament)
I don't have to reply to everyone. Even replying to those I did this afternoon meant I missed my daily 5k run in Preston Park. I'm literally fatter and unhealthier having opened this thread today - gimme a break.Hogging the discussion yet selectively choosing the points you ignore and the ones you answer.
I know we can all be guilty of that but it has been so very obvious on this thread and the ones directly responding to you that you have ignored.
I get it, you believed that a naive old man who sees the best in everyone has regularly accidentally found himself in situations where his allies have done things directly against his own values and whereby he mistakenly looks like he lays wreaths and doesnt realise the people he supports or pictures he stands in front of or books he writes forewards to could be considered anti semitic or supporting holocaust deniers. And that despite these accidents he could galvanise a country and international allies to change the world for the better.
I actually still voted Labour in 2017 and 2019 as i thought a) he would still be better than the tories and b) he was such a naive fool that others who knew what they were doing (and i include mcdonnell in this) would work round him. This was despite seeing some of the nastiest behaviour in british politics from momentum backed indivduals in local parties
You dont have to. But it tells a great story when you dont.I don't have to reply to everyone. Even replying to those I did this afternoon meant I missed my daily 5k run in Preston Park. I'm literally fatter and unhealthier having opened this thread today - gimme a break
Exactly the sort of organisational skills that will always keep the left out of power.I don't have to reply to everyone. Even replying to those I did this afternoon meant I missed my daily 5k run in Preston Park. I'm literally fatter and unhealthier having opened this thread today - gimme a break.
Thinking about it I probably bent the stick replying more to Guinness Boy because we usually have fairly shitty exchanges full of personal remarks but this one was I'm glad to say fairly respectful, even tho we'll never agree in a million years, that's pretty good we both deserve that
I agree.Good luck with that because under Britain's current FPTP two party system you have two hopes and Bob's been gone for over 20 years. So, it's your choice to either compromise and vote for one of the two choices or carry on yelling at the wind.
The one thing that you can be certain of is that voting will have more effect on Britain's problems than yelling, but it's your call
You don't make rules for me, sonny. Sorry. You don't get to claim the Irish card if you don't give a f*** about what the community went through here
You don't make rules for me, sonny. Sorry.
I give plenty of fucks. I just won't support a useless, thick, tankie, career long obsessive racist (who sinn fein had to tell to stfu during the peace process)
Hope this helps
(my background is far from 'settler', as you charmingly put it, btw)
Make a case that's interesting. All I can associate you with is these inconsequential quipsYou dont have to. But it tells a great story when you dont.
lol you are now claiming Sinn Fein cred? Just whose politics will you steal next, given all you have is these wooden insults? You don't make rules for me, sonny. Sorry.
