Peanut butter, banana and honey works well. Great energy sandwich.

Turkey, bacon and hummus is something I like but others find strange.

In a sandwich?! Why would you put fried rice in a sandwich, unless of course you were on some sort of government register? :)

Also remember working with some Poles and they could not understand a chip butty carbs with carbs .

Fresh sliced strawberries with a light sprinkling of caster sugar then spread with Nestles tinned cream (if they still do it).

Grated Red Leicester with sliced pickled onions (must be Garners or homemade).

I make a lot of sandwiches, because I'm too tight to go out for lunch all the time. Regular favourites:

Haslet with Philadelphia
Cheese and Bovril with silverskin pickled onions
Cheese, tomato and salad cream with ground black pepper
Roasted gammon with cherry tomatoes and english mustard
Tuna mayo with red onion and sweetcorn
Sliced boiled egg, tomato and salad cream
Roast beef with horseradish

Tomorrow will be the gammon & cherry tomato. In case you were wondering.

Where do you get your Haslet from? Might try it :) The cheese, bovril and pickled onions sounds interesting as well.

Peanut butter and jello (jam). I have always and will always refuse to eat an abomination.

Very keen on a crisp sandwich, though. White bread*, butter*, a smear of shippam's fish paste, and a layer of smokey bacon flavour crisps. Surf and turf :thumbsup:

Alas, *unavailable to me now owing told Old Man's dietary issues. :tantrum:


I've heard that solid fat is the good stuff; butter, ghee, coconut oil, lard, etc., margarine BAD!! & that white bread is no worse than brown. Grains init.



(Usual caveats; you have not been charged, the value of your dietary assets can go up as well as down, don't blame me etc.)

You haven't lived, Portlock. The lasagne sandwich is a thing of beauty, as is the Chinese takeaway variant.

Bolognese also a stone-cold classic. Obviously made with tagliatelle/pappardelle/penne rather than spaghetti though. I'm not a monster (the sandwich can is great with or without the pasta, in any case).

As an impoverished student... Marmite and Mustard. Excellent on toast too.

Brown sauce and mustard good too (staple diet whilst working at Butlin's Bognor in the 70's (knowing that the Glaswegian chefs frequently pissed in the soup and gawd knows what they did to other meals Butlin's tummy was a regular recurrence amongst unwary guests) it was the safest option).

Prefer the first two on toast

BAng on the money with bolognese, slapped on a wedge of toast, grated cheese on top, a zap in the 'Mik-Row-Warvey' to melt the cheese and a slice on top.

PB/Bananas better on toast too, especially with a dust of brown sugar/cinnamon and grilled

Mashed banana and sugar.
Crisp sandwiches.
Treacle sandwiches.do they still do that Sandwich Spread thing - finely diced veg with salad cream?

Your last two are particularly good (although with sliced boiled egg and tomato, anchovy is a better option IMO, probably with some watercress too). i do note that you might be able to pick up some roasted gammons in The Bear Pit :whistle:
